‘Passing’: Netflix Picks Up Rebecca Hall’s Directorial Debut!!

Netflix has acquired the worldwide rights to splashy Sundance title Passing, the directorial debut of Rebecca Hall that stars Tessa Thompson and Ruth Negga. Sources peg the deal as being north of $15 million.

Based on the novel by Nella Larsen, the movie follows two African-American women who can pass as white and choose to live on opposite sides of the color line in 1929 New York.

“Exquisite performances from Tessa Thompson and Ruth Negga provide the pulsing, emotionally heightened center to Passing, Rebecca Hall‘s assured move behind the camera, adapted with great sensitivity from the 1929 novel by Harlem Renaissance author Nella Larsen,” reads The Hollywood Reporter Sundance review.

André Holland, Bill Camp and Alexander Skarsgard also star. Nina Yang Bongiovi, Forest Whitaker, Margot Hand and Hall produced.

Sales for the U.S. dramatic competition title were handled by Endeavor Content.
