Daredevil: Born Again has found a showrunner—a first for the MCU—as Dario Scardapane, a former executive producer on The Punisher boards the series. Alongside Scardapane, Marvel has tapped Justin Benson and Aaron Moorhead to direct the remaining episodes of Season 1, according to a report from THR. This comes in the midst of a creative overhaul for the series, which reportedly saw a significant portion of the series scrapped as head writers Chris Ord and Matt Corman exited earlier this month.
In addition to hiring Scardapane as a showrunner for the series, Justin Benson and Aaron Moorhead have been hired to direct the remaining episodes of Daredevil: Born Again‘s first season. The duo has previously directed episodes of Moon Knight, the 2022 series starring Oscar Isaac, and episodes from the second season of Loki, which is currently airing every Thursday on Disney+. The new iteration of Daredevil will feature some returning cast members who were established in the Netflix series, while new characters will be introduced to make a seamless transition into the larger MCU.
Charlie Cox will once again portray Matt Murdock, after doing so for three seasons of the Netflix series. The actor last played that version of the character when Season 3 came to an end in Season 3. After that, he was integrated into the MCU during the events of Spider-Man: No Way Home, where he returned as a version of Matt Murdock who happened to be Peter Parker’s (Tom Holland) lawyer. After appearing as a light-hearted hook-up in She-Hulk, Cox is also expected to appear in Echo, the upcoming Hawkeye spinoff starring Alaqua Cox.
The Kingpin is Back in Business in ‘Daredevil: Born Again’
A hero is only as great as his villains, and Daredevil’s nemesis will be coming back in the form of Vincent D’Onofrio‘s Wilson Fisk. During the events of Hawkeye, it was clearly established that New York’s Kingpin of Crime is coming up with interesting ideas to give a new direction to the landscape of the Big Apple. D’Onofrio also played the role in the Netflix Daredevil series, continuing the legacy of a rivalry that started all the way back in 2015. D’Onofrio isn’t the only familiar face to return for Daredevil: Born Again, as The Punisher himself, Jon Bernthal will also be reuniting with Cox in the series.
Daredevil, Moon Knight, The Punisher, and Loki are available to stream on Disney+. Daredevil: Born Again will also premiere on the platform, but a release date for the project hasn’t been set yet.
