A New ‘Jurassic World’ Film is in the Works!!

Clearly, Universal isn’t sparing any expense when it comes to milking the most out of one of their most iconic franchises. The Hollywood Reporter writes that a new Jurassic World film is in the works, with original Jurassic Park writer David Koepp returning to pen the script. Koepp was the scribe behind both the original hit film, as well as its sequel, The Lost World, adapting Michael Crichton’s seminal novels for the screen.

According to THR, producer Frank Marshall is back on board for the new installment, having produced the original Jurassic World trilogy, and Steven Spielberg will again executive produce through Amblin Entertainment. At this point, no plot details have been released, and no director is currently attached, though THR reports that the script is in “well-liked shape,” with potential for release as soon as 2025 if things go the right way. Sources claim that the new film will follow a “new Jurassic era,” but no news has stirred on whether or not any cast members from the first three Jurassic World movies — including franchise veterans Sam Neill, Laura Dern, and Jeff Goldblum — will return for another round.

If this new project comes to pass, it will mark the seventh entry in the overall Jurassic Park franchise, not counting the Netflix animated spinoff series, Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous. The last film in the franchise, Jurassic World Dominion, was released in 2022, was largely a financial success, grossing over $1 billion worldwide, featuring the (nostalgia-baiting) return of Neill, Dern, and Goldblum, starring alongside Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard, among others.

A Return to Tradition for the ‘Jurassic World’ Franchise

Koepp’s screenwriting credits go beyond simply the first two Jurassic Park films, though they both remain seminal pieces of work. His credits also include co-writing on Mission: Impossible, as well as Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man, Angels & Demons, and two Indiana Jones films, including last year’s Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny. His return to the Jurassic World franchise marks a potentially different turn for the films, suggesting that Universal may be looking to take them away from the action-blockbuster lean present in the last three films.

No release date has been set for the new Jurassic World film. Stay tuned to Collider for updates.
