Hulu has released the trailer for The Jetty, a crime drama series centering on a female detective’s mission to unravel the mystery behind a teenage girl’s sudden disappearance. It was announced a few days ago that the hit British mystery series, which debuted earlier this year on BBC, had found its new streaming home on Hulu. Now, the platform is set to introduce one of this year’s best drama series to a broad audience on December 13, with Doctor Who alum Jenna Coleman at the forefront of the story.
Hulu is home to some of the best British detective shows in television history, with The Jetty joining the streamer’s vast collection that includes titles like Sherlock, The Wrong Mans, and Line of Duty. The trailer for The Jetty opens with Coleman‘s Ember Manning, who introduces herself as a detective who’s “basically a human lie detector.” It features her collaboration with Weruche Opia‘s Riz Samuel, who does podcasts on crimes against women — which could also be interrelated to the arson case she’s currently handling. While the series debuted to mixed reviews, with a current 29% audience score and 57% critics score on Rotten Tomatoes, some lauded The Jetty for touching on sensitive and significant themes of abuse and sexual morality. The synopsis for The Jetty reads as follows:
“While investigating a case of arson in a sleepy lakeside town, Detective Ember Manning (Jenna Coleman) gets drawn to the mysterious disappearance of a teenage girl, and a world of secrets and illicit affairs. Soon, the trail to the cold case murderer seems to lead straight to her doorstep. Was her late husband the killer? The truth will turn out to be so much worse.”
Who Else Stars in ‘The Jetty’?
Coleman, whose feature credits include Captain America: The First Avenger and Me Before You, boasts quite an impressive television portfolio, having starred in Emmerdale, Victoria, The Cry, The Serpent, The Sandman, and Wilderness. In addition to Coleman and Opia, The Jetty also stars Tom Glynn-Carney (House of the Dragon), Ruby Stokes (Lockwood & Co.), Archie Renaux (Shadow and Bone), Laura Marcus (The Serpent Queen), Ralph Ineson (Nosferatu), Amelia Bullmore (Happy Valley), and Dominic Coleman (Paddington).
The rest of the cast includes Bo Bragason (The Radleys), David Ajala (Italian Studies), Nina Barker-Francis (The Flash), Miya Ocego (Wreck), Elliot Cowan (The Crown), Arthur Hughes (Then Barbara Met Alan), Matthew McNulty (The Terror), and Ruaridh Mollica (Red Rose).
