One of television’s power couples, Melissa Benoist and Chris Wood are set to take their real life relationship onto the small screen as they look set to team up for roles in Duo, a drama which is reportedly in development over at NBC, as per an exclusive report this afternoon from Deadline. The series marks an exciting on-screen reunion for Supergirl alums Benoist and Wood, as the couple first met while working together on The CW/WBTV superhero series, where Benoist headlined as Kara Zor-El for all six seasons, and Wood joined as a series regular during Seasons 2 and 3.
The script has been penned by Wood, with Mistresses’ Rina Mimoun operating as the showrunner on the project — which also has a script commitment, and comes from Warner Bros. Television, where both Benoist‘s Three Things Productions and Mimoun currently have deals to develop projects. The report states the series will be about this:
In Duo , when a soft-spoken, blue-collar worker (Wood) and a magnetic performer (Benoist) looking for her next break unexpectedly cross paths, their fateful meeting leads to a partnership that changes them both forever. The project is described as a family drama centered around a new two-person band and the disruption their rapidly rising career has on both their lives and the lives of those closest to them.
The pair are no strangers to musical performances, and the report adds that the series “echoes drama series involving band members in a complicated relationship dealing with fame such as Daisy Jones and the Six“. Benoist made her breakthrough on Fox‘s long-running and still immensely popular Glee, while Wood has background in musical theater, including a stint on Broadway in Almost Famous. Benoist will next be seen in Kevin Williamson‘s upcoming Netflix drama series The Waterfront.
How Long Did Melissa Benoist Play Supergirl?
Benoist starred as Kara Zor-El, aka Supergirl, in The CW/WBTV series Supergirl for its entire six-season run from 2015 to 2021. The show followed Benoist‘s Kara, who was the cousin of Superman and who escaped Krypton before it was destroyed, ending up on Earth where she grew her powers in secret. When she grows up, she decides to embrace her abilities and become the protector of National City, balancing her superhero duties with her work as a journalist for CatCo Worldwide Media. Benoist received acclaim for the role, and was part of the wider CW “Arrowverse“.
