Michael C. Hall has officially returned to his iconic role of Dexter Morgan. Vanity Fair has released the first images from Dexter: Resurrection, the upcoming sequel series set after the events of Dexter: New Blood. Dexter met his fate at the end of New Blood, a controversial decision that still doesn’t sit well with many Dexter fans to this day, but Hall told Vanity Fair in a sweeping interview to talk about the new show that Resurrection will “undo” the New Blood ending, bringing back the legendary serial killer who only hunts other killers. The new images show Hall reprising his role as Dexter, with other stars such as Jack Alcott, Peter Dinklage, and even David Zayas, who will return and play Angel Batista.

Dinklage’s new character in Dexter: Resurrection is described as a billionaire with a dark side, and Uma Thurman (Kill Bill) has been tapped to play his head of security. It’s unclear just exactly how deep into the shadows this dark side runs, but if Dinklage’s character is going to face off against Dexter in the first season of Resurrection, his fate can only go one way. Hall also admitted that there was some initial trepidation about returning to play Dexter after such a finite yet controversial ending at the end of New Blood, but he has since been able to overcome those hurdles and recognize that none of his reservations serve this new series in any way. Dexter: Resurrection showrunner Clyde Phillips, who is also the creator of the original series and the New Blood sequel, said that the new show will be an “Easter egg hunt” for classic Dexter fans.
The ‘Dexter’ Franchise Is Rapidly Expanding
Dexter: Resurrection will tell Dexter’s story after New Blood, but another project released last year shined a light on his early days as a serial killer. Hall also featured as an older Dexter Morgan and the narrator of Dexter: Original Sin, the prequel series starring Patrick Gibson as the young Miami P.D. blood-splatter analyst. Christian Slater was also tapped for a role in the series, alongside Molly Brown and Patrick Dempsey. John Lithgow’s Trinity Killer, who is also set to appear in Dexter: Resurrection, will also receive a new spin-off prequel series, but similar to Hall’s role in Original Sin, he will lend his voice to the role with someone else taking on the physical appearance.
Dexter: Resurrection will be released this summer.
