Hold onto your Titans — Godzilla x Kong is about to welcome a Jurassic legend. Now, if you’re filming a movie in Australia, you might as well use some (semi) local talent to help pad out your cast. You look across the water to New Zealand, what do you find? Oh my god, it’s Sam Neill, best known for playing Dr. Alan Grant in Jurassic Park and Jurassic World: Dominion (the one with the giant bugs), who has officially joined the cast of Legendary’s untitled Godzilla x Kong sequel. While Neill’s role is still under wraps, his addition brings major dinosaur-era credibility to a franchise already known for its colossal scale and prehistoric punch. Because Godzilla looks like a dinosaur, get it?
Neill joins a packed and stacked cast that includes Dan Stevens, returning as Trapper Beasley from Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire, along with Kaitlyn Dever (currently seen terrorizing Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey in The Last of Us), Jack O’Connell, Delroy Lindo, Matthew Modine, and Alycia Debnam-Carey. These movies certainly draw in a certain caliber of actor, and it’s easy to see why — plodding around under the feet of Godzilla and Kong just looks downright fun.
What Can We Expect from the Sequel to ‘Godzilla x Kong’?
Grant Sputore (I Am Mother) takes over directing duties from Adam Wingard, with a script by Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings writer Dave Callaham. Wingard previously helmed The New Empire and Godzilla vs. Kong, both of which pushed the franchise further into colorful kaiju mayhem and buddy-monster action. And he even made Godzilla pink! And it worked! Imagine.
While plot specifics are tightly guarded, early descriptions suggest the film will introduce a range of new human characters, played by said ensemble, woven into the Titans’ latest mission to protect (or possibly destroy) the Earth. Basically they’ll be Basil Exposition while we wait for the big guys to smash stuff up, as another Titan that is somehow hidden on Earth will no doubt emerge to cause chaos and stand on small things. Predictability is a virtue when it comes to these movies. The Monsterverse sequel is expected to build on the box office-smashing success of The New Empire, which became the highest-grossing entry in the franchise.
The still-untitled sequel is currently in production and will be released by Warner Bros.
