‘Star Wars’: ‘Lost’ Showrunner is Working on a New Series!!

A new Star Wars series is in early development — and it’s coming from a familiar name in the world of sci-fi television, as per reports from Variety and The InSneider. Lost co-showrunner Carlton Cuse and his son, writer-producer Nick Cuse, are teaming up for the first time to develop an all-new story in a galaxy far, far away. With Andor wrapping up shortly, we’re in need of a new prestige drama in the beloved franchise, so the timing is ideal. That’s the headline, but the rest is shrouded in total mystery.

There are currently no plot details, character teases, timeline hints, or casting information attached to the project, so it’s basically little more than a concept at this point. But when has that ever stopped us getting excited? Considering the Cuse family résumé, it’s fair to expect something twisty, ambitious, and character-driven, and probably massively divisive, let’s be honest — especially with both creators rooted in high-concept TV that wasn’t always satisfying to viewers.

Carlton Cuse helped define a generation of mystery-box storytelling with Lost, and has since gone on to oversee major genre hits like Bates Motel, The Strain, and Jack Ryan. Meanwhile, Nick Cuse has built a name for himself through acclaimed work on The Leftovers, Watchmen, and Station Eleven, which have been some of the most thoughtful series in recent years. Additionally, this will be the first time the pair is working together officially. It’s worth noting that Carlton Cuse is now the third major Lost alumnus to enter the Star Wars universe, following J.J. Abrams, who directed The Force Awakens and The Rise of Skywalker, and Damon Lindelof.

What Other ‘Star Wars’ Projects Are in the Works?

Oh boy, there’s a lot to get through. Just last week at Star Wars Celebration in Japan, the studio announced Star Wars: Starfighter, a new theatrical film directed by Deadpool & Wolverine’s Shawn Levy and starring Ryan Gosling, while elsewhere in the galaxy, Taika Waititi is still attached to direct his own Star Wars movie, and writer Simon Kinberg is said to be working on a trilogy of films that will be a sequel trilogy to the most recent films that starred Daisy Ridley as Rey. Ridley will also lead her own spin-off film, which is currently being shepherded by writer George Nolfi and director Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy.

There’s no release window yet, and with Star Wars, these projects can disappear like a dead Jedi becoming one with the Force, so we’ll keep an eye on this one.
