‘Thursday Murder Club’: Netflix Announces Release Date With New Images!! Check It Out!!

The Thursday Murder Club is ready to crack its biggest case yet — and this time, it’s not just a cold one. Netflix has announced that the long-awaited adaptation of Richard Osman’s bestselling cozy crime novel will premiere Thursday, August 28, 2025, with a murderously stacked cast and a killer creative team. And along with the release date, we’ve also got some killer new images to show off as well. Directed by Chris Columbus (Home Alone, Mrs. Doubtfire) and produced through the Netflix-Amblin Entertainment partnership, The Thursday Murder Club brings Osman’s beloved mystery series to life with a healthy dose of charm, wit, and British mischief. And plenty of cups of tea, don’t you worry.

At the heart of the film are four retirees living in a peaceful English retirement village — Elizabeth (played by the iconic Helen Mirren), Ron (Pierce Brosnan), Ibrahim (Ben Kingsley), and Joyce (Celia Imrie). They spend their golden years digging into unsolved murders for fun — until the game becomes all too real.

When an actual murder rocks their quiet community, the amateur sleuths suddenly find themselves at the center of a dangerous and very personal whodunit. What begins as a quirky hobby turns into a full-blown investigation, and this unlikely quartet may be the only ones who can solve it.

Beyond the core four, The Thursday Murder Club features Naomi Ackie, Daniel Mays, Henry Lloyd-Hughes, Tom Ellis, Jonathan Pryce, David Tennant, Paul Freeman, Geoff Bell, Richard E. Grant, and Ingrid Oliver. That’s basically a Royal Variety Performance in one movie. Splendid.

Chris Columbus Calls the Cast of ‘The Thursday Murder Club’ One of the Best Acting Ensembles Since Harry Potter

Earlier this month, Columbus spoke exclusively with Collider to preview the film, and effused about the cast, hailing their abilities and taking time to spotlight the supporting cast as well, adding that he hoped to make more films in the series in the future.

“Beyond the four members of the TMC, I was blessed with an equally impressive supporting cast. Stephen (Jonathan Pryce), Donna (Naomi Ackie), Chris (Daniel Mays), Ian (David Tennant), Bogdan (Henry Lloyd-Hughes) and Tony (Geoff Bell) are all fully realized characters. And because of Richard Osman’s writing, I was able to cast one of the best acting ensembles I’ve worked with since Harry Potter. Making this film was a dream. I truly hope I am fortunate enough to make a sequel. And another sequel. And another sequel…

The Thursday Murder Club premieres globally on Netflix, August 28, 2025. Check out the first look images from the movie above.
