We have found our original owner of the Mockingjay pin. Lionsgate has announced that Mckenna Grace (Ghostbusters: Afterlife) has been cast as Maysilee Donner in the upcoming adaptation of The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping. The casting announcement comes just a day after Joseph Zada was cast as Haymitch Abernathy. That announcement also came with the casting of Whitney Peak as Lenore Dove Baird. Maysilee, in the Hunger Games prequel released last month, is one of the other tributes from District 12 opposite Haymitch Abernathy for the 50th Hunger Games or the Second Quarter Quell.
In addition to being a female tribute from District 12 in the Second Quell, Maysilee is also a twin to her sister Merrilee. The pair lived above a sweet shop with their parents in District 12. The other two tributes from District 12 heading into the Second Quarter Quell were Wyatt Callow and Louella McCoy after the Capitol wanted twice as many tributes reaped for the games.
What Else Has Mckenna Grace Been In?
It was a running joke at one point, early in Grace‘s career, that she played the younger version of many iconic characters. She guest starred on The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, playing a young Sabrina Spellman (Kiernan Shipka), she was also a young Carol Danvers (Brie Larson) in Captain Marvel. She also played a young Theo Crain in The Haunting of Hill House, and she was even a young Emma Swan in Once Upon a Time. Grace had a recurring guest star role on the Big Bang Theory prequel Young Sheldon as Paige Swanson. Most recently, Grace hid her long blonde locks in favor of a short dark brown curly wig in the two most recent Ghostbusters movies, Ghostbusters: Afterlife and Ghostbusters: The Frozen Empire. Playing the grandchild of the late Egon Spangler (Harold Ramis).
In addition to Sunrise on the Reaping, Grace is set to star in an adaptation of Colleen Hoover‘s novel Regretting You. She will also star as the lead in Blumhouse’s Kiss of Death and in Blumhouse‘s Five Nights at Freddy’s sequel. Along with just about every person ever associated with the franchise, Grace will appear in Scream 7 with Neve Campbell and Courteney Cox.
The Hunger Games: Sunrise On the Reaping releases in theaters on November 20, 2026. The Suzanne Collins book it’s based on is available wherever you buy books.
