We are calling all Supernatural and Grey’s Anatomy fans today, with Prime Video unveiling the first-look images of the Jensen Ackles and Eric Dane-led series, Countdown. The countdown is officially on, as well, with the streamer setting the show’s premiere date for June 25. But that’s not all. The production will kick things off in the most explosive way possible with not one, not two, but a three-episode premiere — that’s triple the Ackles and Dane action for those of you who weren’t following along.
Our first-look images give us a better idea of the high-octane vibes of Countdown. There are a lot of incredibly serious faces and even more attitude with shots of Ackles’ Mark Meachum and Jessica Camacho’s (Bosch: Legacy) Amber Oliveras on the case. We get a feel for the group’s relationship with one another, as Dane’s Nathan Blythe is consistently seen in a suit, while the rest of the crew tend to lean more towards a casual ensemble — after all, they’ll be working undercover. Other stars of the upcoming title also step into the limelight in the debut batch of shots, with Violett Beane (Death and Other Details), Uli Latukefu (Young Rock), and Elliot Knight (The Boys) filling out the supporting ensemble.
Although a trailer hasn’t been released quite yet, we have a pretty solid idea of what will go down when
Countdown crashes onto our TV screens later this year thanks to a beefy synopsis that reads:
When an officer with the Department of Homeland Security is murdered in broad daylight, LAPD detective Mark Meachum, portrayed by Ackles, is recruited to a secret task force, alongside undercover agents from all branches of law enforcement, to investigate. But the hunt for the killer soon uncovers a plot far more sinister than anyone could have imagined, kicking off a race against time to save a city of millions.
Meet the Dynamite Team Behind ‘Countdown’
In our eyes, anything with Ackles will be a sure-fire success. Since his work on the nearly two decade running series Supernatural, the actor has been firing off hit after hit with his appearances in favorites like Tracker and The Boys. Building out the impressive call sheet with Dane, Camacho, and the rest of the cast was an A+ call on behalf of Prime Video.
Meanwhile, behind the scenes, Derek Haas is holding down the fort as the production’s creator. In the past, Haas has been an executive producer on both the One Chicago and FBI franchises, meaning he knows how to make captivating television with dynamic characters and heavy-hitting storylines.
Check out the debut shots of Countdown above and tune into Prime Video for the three-episode premiere on June 25.
