‘Psych’ Eyed for Potential Revival!!

Revivals have become one of the mainstays of modern television. The nostalgia from previously concluded shows become so strong, we revive them. Peacock and NBC have been the center of this move with shows which fall into the USA Network‘s “Blue Sky” era. Harvey Specter (Gabriel Macht) and the world of Suits recently earned itself a spinoff show, Suits LA, which is now well into its first season. Only last week, Mark Feuerstein‘s medical dramedy, Royal Pains, which will see him reprise his role as Dr. Henry “Hank” Lawson was eyed for a reboot. Now, according to an interview from TV Line, another IP from the USA Network, Psych, is now in the running for a revival of its own.

Psych ran from 2006 to 2014 on the USA Network and starred James Roday Rodriguez as fan-favorite fake psychic Shawn Spencer and Dulé Hill as his best friend Burton “Gus” Guster. The success of the series has seen it enjoy a number of sequels since its conclusion, with three movie spinoffs to boost the franchise. The first was Psych: The Movie in 2017 and was released by the USA Network. Psych 2: Lassie Come Home in 2020, and Psych 3: This Is Gus in 2021 were both released by Peacock.

‘Psych 4’ Is Waiting on Peacock

Due to the success of the streaming movies, Deadline has reported that there have been discussions at Peacock about further expanding the Psych universe. Series star, Rodriguez, co-wrote the franchise’s first three movies, and speaking in an interview with TV Line, the actor revealed that Psych 4 is already been written. “Our creative team is ready and have been ready, but unfortunately, it takes two to tango. if the fans really want to make some noise, they should direct their energy toward the Cock,” Rodriguez said, referring to the streamer, Peacock. This is not the first time Roday Rodriguez has offered an update on Psych 4. In 2023, the actor revealed that the script was ready but filming never commenced. “There is a script, which is also an important element. So, I think it’s just a matter of when, not if. Hopefully it will be sooner rather than later, just because you never want people to forget how much they love you. But a little bit of time is always good, too,” he said.

Another USA Network IP that is in the works for a revival is Monk. The Tony Shaloub-led series also had a spinoff movie, Mr. Monk’s Last Case: A Monk Movie, which was released in 2023. Aaron Korsh‘s Suits LA, which is led by Stephen Amell, boasts a cast which includes Josh McDermitt, Lex Scott Davis, Bryan Greenberg, and Troy Winbush, has endured a difficult first season. It remains to be seen how other revivals from this era thrive going forward.
