‘Einstein’: Premiere of Matthew Gray Gubler’s Highly-Anticipated Series Has Been Delayed!!

Matthew Gray Gubler became a fan favorite when playing Spencer Reid in Criminal Minds. The actor departed the series after Season 15 but was set to return to the original air network, CBS, with a new procedural. Gray Gubler was cast as the lead in Einstein, a new procedural recently ordered to series. However, TV Line reports that viewers will have to wait longer following the revelation that the show has been moved to the 2026-2027 TV season. The network’s dwindling space in its schedule for this fall informs the move. CBS is expected to unveil its 2025-2026 broadcast season schedule on May 7, and given the number of shows they have on the air, Einstein lacked a proper spot. This is not atypical on CBS, given that Sheriff Country was also moved last year.

Einstein is a dramedy crime procedural based on a German series of the same name. It follows a brilliant but directionless grandson of the famed physicist Albert Einstein who coasts on life as a tenured professor. However, his antics land him on the wrong side of the law, and he’s forced to work with a local detective to help her solve some of her most complex cases. Rosa Salazar was cast as Maddie Paris, a detective Inspector for the New Jersey State Police with whom Einstein works. She is sharp and focused, and being forced to work with Einstein brings up complicated feelings.

What’s On CBS’ Fall Schedule?

The network has a myriad of shows that will air this fall, from new offshoots to long-running fan favorites. Returning shows are: Tracker, Matlock, FBI, Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage, Fire Country, Ghosts, Watson, NCIS, NCIS: Origins, NCIS: Sydney, The Neighborhood (final season), and Elsbeth. New shows include Sheriff Country, DMV, FBI: CIA, and Boston Blue. With at least eighteen shows being ordered, the network is stretched thin. Meanwhile, the two FBI offshoots, FBI: Most Wanted and FBI: International, won’t return next season.

The show that made Gray Gubler famous was recently rebooted, and most of the original cast members returned. New episodes of the reboot, subtitled Evolution, will return on May 8. The third season brings some good news for fans with the actor set to return. However, he will only appear in one episode, whose details have yet to be revealed. Criminal Minds: Evolution Season 3 “picks up six months after prisoners attack the notorious Sicarius Killer, Elias Voit (Zach Gilford), leading his restless followers on the dark web to begin wreaking havoc all over the country. In order to stop this nefarious group from killing more innocents, the BAU is forced to work alongside an increasingly unpredictable Voit who has his own agenda.”
