‘Duster’ Trailer Promises a Wild New Series from J.J. Abrams!! Check It Out!!

The first trailer for Duster, the new series from J.J. Abrams, has been officially released. The series stars Josh Holloway, who is best known for his role as James in Lost, alongside Camille Guaty and Sydney Elisabeth. Guaty is famous for her role as Maricruz in Prison Break, and Elisabeth previously appeared on The Last O.G. The series was written and created for television by J.J. Abrams and LaToya Morgan. Abrams is also the creator of Lost, meaning there will be something of a reunion between him and leading star Josh Holloway. He’s also famous for his work writing and directing Star Wars: Episode 7 and 9, The Force Awakens and The Rise of Skywalker. He passed off duties for The Last Jedi to Rian Johnson.

Duster is set in the 1970s dusty Southwest, and it follows a gutsy getaway driver for a budding crime family on dangerous driving jobs. The first episode of the series will debut on May 15, and subsequent episodes will be released weekly until the finale airs on July 3. Darren Grant and Steph Green have each been tapped to direct four episodes of the eight-episode series. Grant is best known for his work on other shows such as Suits and Supernatural, and he’s also more recently directed episodes of Tracker and Elsbeth. Green is a Star Wars veteran who has helmed episodes of Ahsoka and The Book of Boba Fett, both series streaming on Disney+, and she’s also familiar with the world of superheroes after directing installments of Watchmen and even Luke Cage, the Luke Colter-led series currently streaming on Disney+.

‘Duster’ Is a Big Deal for J.J. Abrams

Not only is Duster the first writing credit for J.J. Abrams since his work on The Rise of Skywalker, but it’s also his first non-Star Wars project in more than 10 years. Working with a franchise as big as Star Wars generally occupies enough time that creatives don’t have time to do much else, and other than scripting one episode of the podcast series Neuverse Creative, Abrams’ career has been largely silent in the last five years. However, he’s also working with Glen Powell on a currently untitled project that also reportedly stars Jenna Ortega and Samuel L. Jackson.

Duster premieres on Max on May 15.
