‘The Better Sister’ Trailer Finds Jessica Biel, Elizabeth Banks in a New Murder Mystery!! Check It Out!!

Prime Video is about to show that sometimes family history can be even messier than murder. The streamer has released the trailer for its new thriller limited series The Better Sister, which stars Jessica Biel and Elizabeth Banks as estranged sisters Chloe and Nicky, who share a very complicated connection. When the former’s husband is murdered, they’re unexpectedly brought back together amid the tragedy as Chloe realizes she needs her sibling by her side to untangle the horrific crime. What follows is a search for the truth that requires them to untangle their family’s secrets when the prime suspect in the case has ramifications for the entire unit. Based on the book by Alafair Burke, the series premieres on May 29.

The first moments of the trailer see Chloe confronting the anxiety of both her husband Adam’s (Corey Stoll) death and the sudden arrival of her sister, with whom she is not on the best of terms. Nicky has struggled to stay clean and is generally described as unstable. However, the messiest part of their relationship is that she’s also Adam’s ex-wife and the mother of Ethan (Maxwell Acee Donovan), whom Chloe is now raising as her own son. With Chloe essentially living the seemingly perfect life that was once meant for Nicky, it creates some understandable tension between the pair after Chloe comes home one night to find Adam dead in a pool of his own blood, with Ethan the suspected killer. Now, their story is in the public eye, and they’re in a race against time to comb over the details and come to terms with their history to save Ethan and crack the murder mystery while detectives work in the background.

Biel and Banks have been busy in the run-up to their new limited series team-up, with the former previously starring in the twisted true-crime series Candy on Hulu while the latter recently headlined in the darkly comedic Skincare. To go with the starry duo at the top, The Better Sister also boasts a strong supporting cast around them. Stoll and Donovan are joined by Kim Dickens, Bobby Naderi, Gabriel Sloyer, Gloria Reuben, Matthew Modine, and Lorraine Toussaint.

Who Is Behind the Bingeworthy Mystery of ‘The Better Sister’?

All eight episodes of the new series are produced by Amazon MGM Studios in partnership with Tomorrow Studios, which has also previously worked on Netflix‘s One Piece live-action series. Olivia Milch and Regina Corrado joined forces as co-showrunners and executive producers, with Craig Gillespie also executive producing with Annie Marter through Fortunate Jack Productions and directing the series. Gillespie has had a hand in a few hit series of late, including Jon Hamm‘s sleek new Apple TV+ show Your Friends and Neighbors as well as Hulu‘s Pam & Tommy back in 2022, but he remains best known for his big-screen efforts with I, Tonya, Dumb Money, and more. Marty Adelstein, Becky Clements, and Alissa Bachner also serve as executive producers through Tomorrow Studios, alongside the starring pair, Biel and Banks.

The Better Sister premieres on May 29 on Prime Video. Check out the trailer in the player above.
