‘Jay Kelly’: First Image Teases Noah Baumbach’s New Netflix Movie!! Check It Out!!

Jay Kelly has been in production for quite a while. First announced in 2023, the new movie by Noah Baumbach (The Squid and the Whale) has been described as “a heartbreaking comedy.” Today, Netflix finally decided to unveil a first look at the upcoming movie, which gives us a general idea of the tone. The streamer also finally revealed the release date for Jay Kelly: we can expect to check it out on the platform on December 5, after a limited theatrical run in November.

The first-look image shows George Clooney, but we’re yet to see a lot more actors populate the screen. The upcoming movie’s star-studded cast also features Adam Sandler (Spaceman), Billy Crudup (Hello Tomorrow!), Laura Dern (Big Little Lies), Grace Edwards (Asteroid City), Stacy Keach (the original Prison Break series), Riley Keough (The Terminal List), Emily Mortimer (Paddington in Peru), Patrick Wilson (Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom), Jim Broadbent (Harry Potter film series), Eve Hewson (Bad Sisters), Alba Rohrwacher (Maria), Isla Fisher (Now You See Me: Now You Don’t), Jamie Demetriou (Back in Action) and Baumbach‘s long-time collaborator and wife, Greta Gerwig (Barbie).

Netflix has been extremely careful with the details of Jay Kelly, but with the release date announced, we’re bound to get a trailer soon. Of course, the trailer will have the task of providing a first look at most — if not all — cast members, so there might be no time to reveal details of the story. Not that it will bother long-time fans of the director and screenwriter, since at this point they fully trust his work.

What Else Has Noah Baumbach Made With Netflix?

The Netflix-Baumbach partnership has been a fruitful one for years. With the streamer, the director and screenwriter stepped out of his comfort zone to helm, for the first time ever, a story he himself didn’t create: the $100 million sci-fi comedy White Noise. Before that, Marriage Story became one of the streamer’s most awarded titles. The Adam Driver (Megalopolis) and Scarlett Johansson (Jurassic World: Rebirth) family drama received six Oscar nominations, including Best Motion Picture of the Year.

Baumbach, Netflix, and Adam Sandler also partnered up in 2017 for The Meyerowitz Stories (New and Selected), a quiet comedy that landed a comfortable 92% score on Rotten Tomatoes. Since Sandler‘s outings with renowned directors tend to be praised, chances are that we get one of the year’s must-watch titles with Jay Kelly.

Netflix premieres Jay Kelly on December 5. A trailer is yet to be released.
