‘Practical Magic 2’ Sets 2026 Release Date!!

Grab everything y’all need for a midnight margarita and meet us on September 18, 2026. That’s when Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman return for the Practical Magic sequel. The announcement was made today with a witchy and fun video on Warner Bros. social media. The highly anticipated sequel is an update to the 1998 film. The video is voice-only, narrated by Kidman and Bullock practically cast a spell, rhyming right into the release date of September 18, 2026.

Back in February, Kidman, who plays Gillian Owens, teased the movie at the Time’s Women of the Year event in Los Angeles. She said the plans for the sequel were “moving ahead rapidly” but that “You can ask Sandy,” for more details. “Sandy” being Bullock, who plays Sally Owens. Kidman teased that the sequel “just needs a little magic,” to happen. If only we knew.

What Will the Practical Magic Sequel Be About?

The spell is cast. The date is set. Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman return. Only In Theaters September 18, 2026.

The Practical Magic sequel will be based on The Book of Magic by the original Practical Magic author, Alice Hoffman. The book follows Sally’s now grown-up children, who deal with the curse now as grown Owens women. The project is full of promise with Akiva Goldsman, the original writer, behind the script for the upcoming sophomore installment. More original crew are returning for the sequel as well, with original producer, Denise Di Novi, back for the project.

As for the cast, Kidman and Bullock are back, but it’s unclear if they’ll be recasting Sally’s daughters (only one of them still acts, Evan Rachel Wood, who played Kylie) or if other members of the Owens family will return. Other potential returns could include: Stockard Channing (The West Wing) and Dianne Wiest (The Mayor of Kingstown), who played Aunt Frances and Aunt Jet, the original narrators of the first book/film, as well as Aidan Quinn, who played Sally’s love interest, Officer Gary Hallet. The book is technically supposed to take place more than a decade after the events of the first, but given that it’s been 28 years since the original film, a little magic will be needed to fit the narrative with the current timeframe, if that’s what Goldsman is aiming for. It’s also not known if they will draw on any other of Hoffman‘s books within the world of Practical Magic, such as The Rules of Magic or Magic Lessons.
