‘Dig’: Amy Poehler and ‘Parks & Recreation’ Creator to Reunite for New Comedy Series!!

Peacock is ready to reclaim the former glory of one of the best comedies of the past decade. After the conclusion of Parks and Recreation in 2015, creator Mike Schur and Amy Poehler are reuniting for a new project. Variety publicized that the new series has been titled Dig and is an adaptation of the Kate Myers book, Excavations. The synopsis for the comedy is as follows:

Four women working at an archeological dig in Greece are at wildly different crossroads in their lives. When the team uncovers a long-buried secret with the potential to rewrite history, they find themselves at the center of a high-stakes international conspiracy.”

In addition to starring in the project, Poehler has also been reported as co-writing the first episode with Schur. Though this is the first time that the two will reunite on a project, it isn’t Schur’s first project since the celebrated finale of Parks and Rec. The creator had also conceived of the existential comedy, The Good Place. Starring Kristen Bell and Ted Danson, the entire series takes place after the deaths of all the main characters as they find themselves in the afterlife. With an ingenious twist at the end of Season 1, The Good Place was further proof of Schur’s success in comedy. Fans may be hoping that lightning will strike a second or third time with this follow-up.

‘Dig’ Joins a Roster of Eccentric Programming

Dig is set to premiere on Peacock, the streaming service affiliated with Universal Television. Mike Schur and Amy Poehler have had a long-standing relationship with the company in their relationship with NBC. Parks and Recreation went on for seven seasons in uplifting programming with lovable characters, though it admittedly stumbled in its first season. The new series will go on to streaming, but is not without its own caché.

Peacock has an impressive collection of original content, including Poker Face, Twisted Metal, and All Her Fault. Viewers can also catch vintage programming such as the prolific Law & Order franchise. Though the streaming platform had stumbled in its early launch with the type of content it released, it has since streamlined its best shows. Newer programming has geared towards entertaining and high strangeness that invites new subscribers. Dig is still in its early development and has not publicized a clear tone, but fans will expect a return to form from the Parks and Rec creator.
