Jennifer’s Body scribe Diablo Cody is sinking her teeth into a new TV series. Fang Fiction will adapt the novel of the same name that sees a fan of supernatural romance thrown into a world of sexy vampires. Variety reports that Cody is working closely with the novel’s author, Kate Stayman-London, on the adaptation.
The novel, which was published in 2024 and soon became a hit on BookTok, centers around Tess Rosenbloom, a hotel manager and devotee of the Blood Feud series of vampire romance novels. She loves to delve deep into the lore and mysteries of the series, but she doesn’t believe vampires are actually real…until she meets one. He’s trapped in the world of fiction, and needs her help to escape; when she agrees, she finds herself on a mysterious island of eternal darkness. Surrounded by ravenous bloodsuckers, she soon finds herself falling in love with one of them. Stayman-London says her book is her “love letter to every romantasy reader who’s dreamed of waking up inside the world of her favorite novels (and maybe making out with the sexy villain!).” Cody, who will be working with Stayman-London on the script, adds “Fang Fiction had me at ‘sexy vampires’ but I wasn’t expecting to be so completely delighted and transported by this fabulous book.”
Who Is Diablo Cody?
Brook Maurio first gained renown for a blog, and later a memoir, Candy Girl: A Year in the Life of an Unlikely Stripper, about her brief career as an exotic dancer; she wrote both under the alias Diablo Cody, which became her pen name. Encouraged to pen a screenplay, she wrote Juno, the tale of an unconventional pregnant teenager. The resulting film, which starred Elliot Page and Michael Cera, became a sleeper hit, and Cody won the Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay. Cody subsequently penned a number of films, including the cult horror classic Jennifer’s Body, the Charlize Theron dramedy Young Adult, and the Las Vegas-set Paradise; Cody also made her directorial debut with the latter. She also created the TV series United States of Tara and One Mississippi (the latter with Tig Notaro). She recently wrote the script for the horror comedy Lisa Frankenstein.
Cody will executive produce Fang Fiction alongside Gigi Pritzker, Rachel Shane, Amanda Morgan Palmer, and Mason Novick. It will be a production of Madison Wells.
Fang Fiction is in development; no casting or release date has yet been announced.
