John Cena has returned to the conversation after reclaiming the WWE Undisputed Championship from Cody Rhodes at WrestleMania, and now, his next major project just got an exciting new look. Cena stars as Christopher Smith in Peacemaker, the hit DC show from James Gunn that will return with Season 2 on August 21. Max has officially released a new trailer for Peacemaker Season 2, showing Cena back with his co-stars Freddie Stroma, Danielle Brooks, and more as the team looks set to keep the peace at any cost. Peacemaker Season 2 will be the first DCU project after Superman, the tentpole written and directed by James Gunn, that will officially launch the new universe. Jennifer Holland, Steve Agee, Dee Bradley Baker, and more will also star in Peacemaker Season 2.
Cena’s Peacemaker first appeared in The Suicide Squad, which was also the debut DCU film from James Gunn after directing the first two Guardians of the Galaxy movies. The film also stars Idris Elba, Margot Robbie, David Dastmalchian, Joel Kinnaman, and more. Cena’s Peacemaker was one of the universally beloved elements of the film, so much so that it prompted DC and Warner Bros. to green light with a TV series focused on the anti-hero. The show was an instant hit, earning scores of 93% from critics and 89% from audiences on Rotten Tomatoes, so moving forward with Season 2 was a no-brainer. However, as Gunn and co-CEO Peter Safran took over leadership and formed DC Studios, this led to some transition delays, but now Peacemaker Season 2 is on track and set to be released in just a few months.
The new trailer is chock-full of our favorite characters, all while plot details are being kept under wraps. We get to see Christopher Smith be his usually snarky self all while a fittingly rock and roll soundtrack plays. Eagle-eyed DC fans might even be able to spot how Peacemaker Season 2 factors into James Gunn and Peter Safran‘s new universe despite Season 1 taking place in the DCEU, such as the first look at a live-action Rick Flag Sr. (Frank Grillo), several cast members from Gunn‘s upcoming Superman movie like Grant Gardner (Nathan Fillion) and Hawkgirl (Isabela Merced), and Christopher meeting an apparent alternate version of himself.

John Cena shocked the world at WrestleMania by taking the WWE title from Cody Rhodes, who had held it since ripping it away from Roman Reigns at WrestleMania the year before. It didn’t take the WWE long to figure out who would be the first to come for his title, as Randy Orton proceeded to deliver an RKO to John Cena at the Raw after WrestleMania, setting himself up for a shot at the title. Orton and Cena will face off this weekend at WWE Backlash, which takes place in St. Louis., Orton’s hometown.
