‘Ironheart’: New Featurette Sees Ryan Coogler Reintroduce Riri Williams!! Check It Out!!

Not long after the first official image from Ironheart was released, Marvel Studios just delivered another thrilling look at the upcoming Disney+ series. Marvel dropped a new featurette of Ironheart, which is largely narrated by Wakanda Forever director Ryan Coogler, who also executive produces the Ironheart series. The promo features new looks at Dominique Thorne’s Riri Williams in the upcoming series, as well as new footage from her adversary, The Hood, who will be played by Anthony Ramos. Thorne first made her debut in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, and now she will return and lead a new project of her own. The first three episodes of Ironheart will be released on June 24, and the official trailer for the series will drop tomorrow.

One of the most important points that Coogler and other cast members and creatives involved in the series drive home in this featurette is Riri’s connection to Iron Man. She is not taking over the mantle of Iron Man from Tony Stark — she’s her own character with her own identity, making a mantle of her own. Williams also shared in a recent interview that the series has the blessing of Robert Downey Jr., who shared that he was excited to watch it upon its release. Riri Williams is one of the smartest characters in the MCU, and the idea that she’s just following in Stark’s footsteps to become the next Iron Man is dismissive of the path that she’s carved out for herself. Riri’s introduction in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever is handled perfectly, and knowing that Coogler is involved in Ironheart should help instill some good faith in the series, especially after his recent hit, Sinners.

‘Ironheart’ Releases Before Another Big Marvel Project

Ironheart’s June 24 release is almost exactly one month before The Fantastic Four: First Steps hits theaters everywhere. This could be partially why Marvel is debuting the first three episodes of the six-episode series, to make sure it has time to shine before it’s overshadowed by one of the biggest Marvel movies of all time. Between the star power in the new Fantastic Four movie and the love for Marvel’s first family from fans, The Fantastic Four: First Steps could be the biggest MCU movie since Spider-Man: No Way Home.

The first three episodes of Ironheart premiere on Disney+ on June 24.
