‘A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms’: Release of New ‘Game of Thrones’ Spin-Off Series Pushed to 2026!!

The Game of Thrones universe has been hit with yet another disappointment. After years waiting for House of the Dragon Season 3, fans will have to continue their patience for the arrival of the spin-off series, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms. Previously understood to have a premiere date of this year, Variety reported that it has now been pushed to 2026. The series is based off of George R.R. Martin’s novella, The Hedge Knight, and has the following logline:

A century before the events of ‘Game of Thrones,’ two unlikely heroes wandered Westeros… a young, naïve but courageous knight, Ser Duncan the Tall, and his diminutive squire, Egg. Set in an age when the Targaryen line still holds the Iron Throne, and the memory of the last dragon has not yet passed from living memory, great destinies, powerful foes, and dangerous exploits all await these improbable and incomparable friends.”

During Warner Bros. Discovery’s upfront presentation, a trailer for the Game of Thrones spin-off indicated that it would now have a release date of the following year. This has become a popular trend in recent years, particularly when it comes to premium cable series with a high budget.

‘A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms’ Follows the ‘Game of Thrones’ Curse

The premiere of Game of Thrones in 2011 was heralded as a turning point for HBO but its stock has since plummeted. After the dismal series finale in 2019, the brand has had diminishing returns. Though House of the Dragon was met with enthusiasm, fans too have to wait longer than anyone would really like.

Season 2 of House of the Dragon sidelined Daemon Tagaryen (Matt Smith) to Harrenhal for the entire season without the anticipated Battle of the Gullet, which was pushed to Season 3. Creatives also made big changes such as the Blood and Cheese plot. All of this would be one thing but premium shows like these have been making fans wait longer and longer for their release.

Fellow HBO series The Last of Us had a two year time gap while Disney+’s Andor was even longer. These gaps run the risk of these respective television shows losing momentum and even fans. Luckily, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms doesn’t have that problem sice it has yet to premiere. But it should still be time for HBO to return to the yearly release schedule that was possible in the Game of Thrones heyday. There is no set release date for A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms yet, but viewers can anticipate it to come out at some point in 2026.
