Sylvester Stallone became a worldwide phenomenon after starring in the Rambo film franchise. Deadline reports that Millennium Media is developing a prequel to the first film, Rambo: First Blood, and it is being sold at Cannes. Titled John Rambo, the prequel will be directed by Sisu director Jalmari Helander from a script by Rory Haines and Sohrab Noshirvani (Black Adam). Principal photography is set to begin in Thailand in October. Details about the film are scarce, but it is expected to be an origin story about young John Rambo during the Vietnam War. It is being reported that Stallone is aware of the project, but he’s not involved. However, its producers have left the door open should a fitting role arise. Casting is in the early stages.
Millennium Media is known for producing action hits, from …Has Fallen to Hitman’s Bodyguard, and even the Stallone-led Expendables film franchise. “We are thrilled to introduce a fresh new chapter to the Rambo legacy. This project is a tribute to one of the best franchises in movie history that will appeal to both longtime fans and new audiences alike. With Jalmari Helander at the helm — a filmmaker of exceptional vision and energy — we’ve found the perfect director to deliver a high-concept action-packed experience,” Millennium President Jonathan Yunger said in a statement. Director Helander spoke about being a huge Rambo fan, saying:
“I have been the biggest fan of Rambo since the age of 11. It is so surreal to be in a situation where I can actually make my own Rambo movie. The chain of events that got me here makes, in a fantastic way, my whole childhood make sense. I can’t wait to bring the greatest action hero back to the big screen where he belongs.”
What Is ‘Rambo’ Star Sylvester Stallone Up To?
Since he first broke out out into the scene with Rocky, Sylvester Stallone was a movie star before First Blood, but the character of John Rambo cemented him as one of the most recognizable action stars ever. The Rambo franchise spawned over five films, with the latest released in 2019. Stallone‘s film credits are as long as his voice is deep. On the small screen, he has appeared in numerous shows as himself before taking the lead role in Taylor Sheridan‘s Paramount+ fictional drama series, Tulsa King. He plays the lead character, Dwight “The General” Manfredi. Season 3 of Tulsa King is set to debut soon.
