‘Avengers: Doomsday’ and ‘Secret Wars’ Release Dates Delayed!!

Looks like Earth’s mightiest heroes need a little more time to suit up. Disney has officially delayed the release of both of Marvel Studios’ next Avengers films — Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars — as part of a sweeping reshuffle of its theatrical calendar.

Originally set to launch Phase 6 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe in May 2026, Avengers: Doomsday will now hit theaters on December 18, 2026, pushing the long-awaited ensemble feature back by more than seven months. In lockstep, Avengers: Secret Wars has been shifted from May 7, 2027 to December 17, 2027.

The delays were announced Thursday afternoon as part of a broader Disney slate reorganization that also saw the removal of several previously held dates for Untitled Marvel projects. Notably, Marvel’s February 13, 2026 slot has now been dropped altogether, and two other Marvel placeholders — November 6, 2026, and November 5, 2027 — have been quietly repurposed as “Untitled Disney” projects.

With these changes, only two officially confirmed Marvel Cinematic Universe entries remain on the 2026 schedule: Spider-Man: Brand New Day (Sony/Marvel), releasing July 31, 2026, and Avengers: Doomsday (Marvel Studios), releasing December 18, 2026.

That means Tom Holland’s next Spider-Man movie will swing into theaters several months before the next major Avengers team-up — a notable shift given that Holland’s Peter Parker is expected to play a key role in Phase 6. But more interestingly, Holland is not part of the cast of Doomsday. So what does this mean for the narrative shift, if anything?

What Are ‘Doomsday’ and ‘Secret Wars’ About?

Both Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars are among the biggest productions Marvel Studios has ever mounted, boasting an eye-watering cast that spans across franchises and multiverses. Most notably, Robert Downey Jr. is returning to the MCU — but not as Tony Stark. This time, he’s donning the mask of Victor Von Doom, better known as Doctor Doom, the primary antagonist of Doomsday and a multiversal threat that will carry into Secret Wars. The full details of Downey’s return have been tightly guarded, but we’re expecting him to be a different man from a different timeline, and we even think he might turn up in The Fantastic Four: First Steps in July.
