It’s been a long time coming, and finally, we know when we can expect Tin Soldier to hit our screens as Samuel Goldwyn Films has officially secured the North American distribution rights to the movie. An explosive action thriller headlined by a powerhouse cast including Jamie Foxx, Robert De Niro, and Scott Eastwood, Tin Soldier is directed by Brad Furman (The Lincoln Lawyer). The movie has been teased as more than just a shoot-’em-up thriller; the script, co-written by Furman and Jess Fuerst, touches on modern warfare and the intersection with non-state-armed actors, promising exactly the kind of adrenaline-fueled ride action genre fans love.
Years after the initial announcement of the project, news about the film went quiet, leaving skeptics wondering if the production had hit a major snag. Earlier this year, while promoting his spy movie Alarum, Eastwood gave hints about the status of Tin Soldier, revealing that “It’s going to come out, it’s just where it comes out… The film market was so s*it in the last, like, year and a half, two years. But I think it’s getting better, or at least it should…. I know that [Tin Soldier] was, you know, a pretty substantial movie, and they’re wanting to sell it and get it in the best hands for the best viewership.” In the end, Tin Soldier successfully wooed a distributor and is planned for a release later this year, with the exact release date to be unveiled soon. The movie is centered around The Bokushi, a charismatic leader who commands a militant cult of veterans seeking purpose and belonging. Read the synopsis below:
“Tin Soldier tells the story of The Bokushi (Foxx), who preaches to hundreds of veterans who have been drawn to the promise of protection and purpose under him. Surrounded by his devout military-trained followers, he has built an impenetrable fortress and amassed an arsenal of weapons. After several failed infiltration attempts, the government, in the form of military operative Emmanuel Ashburn (De Niro), recruits Nash Cavanaugh (Eastwood), an ex-special forces asset, who was once a disciple of The Bokushi. Nash agrees to use his vulnerable past and insider knowledge of the enigmatic leader to finally get revenge on the man who took everything from him, including the love of his life.”
‘Tin Soldier’ Will Feature a Stacked Cast
Tin Soldier will feature a number of stars notable for their action roles, including John Leguizamo (John Wick), Saïd Taghmaoui (John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum), Nora Arnezeder (Army of the Dead), Joey Bicicchi (Black Bird), Shamier Anderson (The Luckiest Man in America), as well as Rita Ora (Twist). However, their character descriptions are yet to be revealed, but with its release coming soon, more details could be revealed, possibly with its trailer.
Whether Tin Soldier becomes the next breakout action hit remains to be seen, but with this pedigree and ensemble cast, it’s definitely one to watch. A first-look image revealed above sees Foxx and Eastwood engaged in a staredown as a few people in the background, possibly members of the cult, look on. The movie will release later this year on a yet undisclosed date.
