‘Crystal Lake’: Long-Delayed ‘Friday the 13th’ Prequel Series Adds William Catlett!!

It’s been three years since Crystal Lake, a Friday the 13th prequel series, was first announced, and now, the call sheet is beginning to be made public. William Catlett will return to the horror genre following his turn in Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett’s Universal monster flick, Abigail, in the role of Levon Brooks. As of right now, we don’t know how Levon fits into the story, but we know that Catlett will appear opposite Linda Cardellini (Dead to Me), who will lead the cast as Pamela Vorhees. The series is set to follow the days of Vorhees’ life before the scream-worthy events of Sean S. Cunningham’s 1980 film, Friday the 13th, went down.

Along with Abigail, Catlett has recently appeared in feature-length titles, including Alexandre Aja’s survival horror flick Never Let Go and the A.V. Rockwell-helmed drama, A Thousand and One. On the small screen, the actor has been spotted in Mara Brock Akil’s Netflix adaptation of Judy Blume’s novel Forever. He also worked alongside Akil on the superhero project, Black Lightning, with other television titles under his belt, such as Constellation, Lovecraft Country, and The Last Days of Ptolemy Grey.

Catlett’s casting comes hot on the heels of a look inside the Peacock production, with showrunner, Brad Caleb Kane, posting an image of the set to his social media. It’s pretty bare bones now, but the crew is hard at work designing and building what will eventually be the living room in Pamela Vorhees’ home. What horrors take place there ahead of Friday the 13th is anyone’s guess, but it’s good to know that the set is taking shape. Kane has been on top of keeping fans up to date when it comes to news surrounding the project, as he previously shared an image of the script which featured A24’s logo. The indie studio is backing the series, which only further drives up our intrigue to see how things shake out.

Here’s What We Know About ‘Crystal Lake’s Plot

As mentioned above, Crystal Lake will give plenty of background to the events that happened in the franchise-starting slasher, Friday the 13th. Cardellini’s Pam Vorhees will be introduced as a struggling mother who is forced to give up her dreams of becoming a singer (hello, Pearl) to take care of her special-needs child, Jason. However, after an accident appears to take Jason’s life at summer camp, Mrs. Vorhees goes off the rails on a mission for vengeance.
