Dexter Morgan just never seems to stop. Or shows starring our favorite serial killer (who kills other serial killers) that keep telling Dexter’s story. The flagship series, Dexter starred Michael C. Hall as Dexter Morgan — a killer who works as a blood splatter analyst with the Miami Police Department. After the original run of the show, fans were gifted with Dexter: New Blood, which showed Dexter after the tragic death of beloved fan-favorite Deb Morgan (Jennifer Carpenter) and where he is after being completely isolated. Then, we had Dexter: Original Sin — a prequel that detailed a younger Dexter Morgan’s life, played by Patrick Gibson. And it all leads us to Dexter: Resurrection.
During their panel at CCXP in Mexico City, a trailer was released for the new show that takes place after the events of New Blood! The show is set to release on July 11 with two episodes premiering on Paramount+ if you have SHOWTIME through the platform. The series will be executive produced and showrun by Clyde Phillips with Hall, of course, returning as Dexter. The show is a new step for Dexter as we get to see his life in New York City. Gone is the warm weather of Florida this time around.
Resurrection “takes place weeks after Dexter Morgan (Hall) takes a bullet to the chest from his own son, as he awakens from a coma to find Harrison (Jack Alcott) gone without a trace. Realizing the weight of what he put his son through, Dexter sets out for New York City, determined to find him and make things right. But closure won’t come easy. When Miami Metro’s Angel Batista (David Zayas) arrives with questions, Dexter realizes his past is catching up to him fast. As father and son navigate their own darkness in the city that never sleeps, they soon find themselves deeper than they ever imagined – and that the only way out is together.”
It Is a Dark Time for Dexter Morgan
Much like Harry Morgan, Dexter tried to shield Harrison from his life and tried to protect him from the darker parts of himself. That didn’t really work out, and now Dexter is trying to start a new life in New York City that includes a lot of other serial killers and a man who is obsessed with them (played by Peter Dinklage). Resurrection is different for Dexter all around, and it is going to be exciting to see what the show has in store for our beloved psychopath!
You can see Dexter Morgan’s grand return in the trailer for Dexter: Resurrection above. The new series premieres on July 11.
