Variety reports that a sequel to One of Them Days is in the works, with both Keke Palmer and SZA expected to return. Writer Syreeta Singleton and director Lawrence Lamont are also expected to return for the sequel, but plot details are still being ironed out as it’s in the earliest stages of development. It’s currently unclear when the film will begin production or be released, but it likely won’t be until sometime next year at the earliest, if not into 2027. One of Them Days debuted earlier this year on January 17 and grossed over $50 million at the box office against a modest $14 million budget. It then began streaming on Netflix and spent nearly a month in the streamer’s top 10 most popular movie chart.
One of Them Days was one of the most surprising box office hits of the year. Although it’s given up its top 10 spot as one of the highest-grossing films of the year due to newer blockbuster arrivals, it still proved to be an immensely profitable endeavor for Sony Pictures. The film kicked off its box office run by almost earning back its budget during its first weekend, opening with $11.8 million to fall just behind Mufasa: The Lion King, which was still stretching its legs with $12 million during its fifth weekend in theaters at the time. One of Them Days then continued to earn respectable totals in the following weekends despite losing to other new arrivals like Flight Risk and Dog Man, and it finally left theaters after the weekend of April 4 with over $50 million under its belt.
