‘Eyes of Wakanda’: Showrunner Confirms Iron Fist Appearance in Upcoming MCU Animated Series!!

Eyes of Wakanda animated series is set to debut on Disney+ at the beginning of August, and a major character from Marvel Comics is set to debut in the series. Little is known about Eyes of Wakanda at this time, other than it will follow Wakanda warriors throughout history, traveling the world in search of stolen vibranium artifacts. Steve Toussaint (House of the Dragon) will also have a voice role in the series. Earlier today, Collider’s Steve Weintraub attended the Eyes of Wakanda panel with Todd Harris at the Annecy Animation Festival, and he confirmed that one Defender from Netflix’s Marvel universe will have a role in the show. Here’s the kicker: it’s one we haven’t seen make their MCU debut yet:

The only thing I can tell you, which is what I was told to be able to tell you, is there will be an Iron Fist in here, and not the Iron Fist you’d expect. And also, to Nigeria, we had Zoma and Harrison, who are unbelievable artists. Kept us very honest. I appreciate the fact that you acknowledge the authenticity that we’re trying to maintain, but yeah, we will be seeing some things that will be a little familiar.”

Weintraub also had the chance to catch up with Harris for an exclusive interview after the panel, and he asked if Iron Fist’s role would see him team-up with one of the Wakandans. To no surprise, he wasn’t able to dish out too many details, but he did share his love for the character and just how “amazing” he is:

Man, I love Marvel. I can’t say too much, but when I say Iron Fist shows up, I was explaining to one of the people there, like, ‘Do you understand how amazing an Iron Fist is? An Iron Fist walked into a cave with a dragon, and he had no superpowers, and walked out with superpowers, and the dragon was dead.'”

He wrapped up his response by somehow making the Wakandans sound even cooler, but also teasing what seems like it will be more like a face-off between Iron Fist and the Wakandans, rather than a team-up. He also teases that fans of iconic martial arts actor Jackie Chan will be happy with the Iron Fist episode in Eyes of Wakanda:

Then you go in there with Spartan space Marines that are Wakandans. It is going to be a meeting of very extreme viewpoints. And if you love Jackie Chan, you’ll love that episode.”

You read that right, folks. Iron Fist will have a role to play in Eyes of Wakanda. It’s unclear how much the character will be featured on Eyes of Wakanda, but it sounds like it’s more than a quick cameo.

Is Ryan Coogler Involved in ‘Eyes of Wakanda’?

Ryan Coogler will serve as an executive producer on Eyes of Wakanda, along with his wife Zinzi Coogler, but he does not have a writing or directorial credit on the show. This will be the first Wakandan-set project (not counting the mention Age of Ultron or battle in Infinity War) that will be written and directed by someone other than Coogler, who helmed both Black Panther movies. Coogler’s name is hotter than ever right now with the recent release of Sinners, and he’s also confirmed that he’s working on a third Black Panther movie, one Denzel Washington is set to have a role in.

Eyes of Wakanda premieres on Disney+ on August 6.
