‘Presumed Innocent’ Season 2: Rachel Brosnahan to Headline Apple TV+ Series!!

Rachel Brosnahan is officially on her way back to television. After leading the cast of Prime Video’s fan-favorite series, The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, the actress has set her follow-up to James Gunn’s Superman as the star of the second season of Presumed Innocent. In addition to starring in the sophomore installment of the Apple TV+ smash hit, Brosnahan will also serve as an executive producer. Departing from the story told in the show’s first season, which followed a cast fronted by Jake Gyllenhaal, the David E. Kelley-created series will venture into new territory for the next set of episodes, moving the title into anthology territory.

Whereas the first season of Presumed Innocent followed Scott Turow’s 1987 novel of the same name, the highly anticipated follow-up will take a page from Jo Murray’s upcoming book, Dissection of a Murder. The story is set to follow defense attorney Leila Reynolds, who will presumably be played by Brosnahan. Leila has been recruited to a murder trial at the behest of the defendant, who demands that she be his lawyer. There’s just one problem — this will be the attorney’s first murder trial, which immediately stacks the stakes sky-high. To make matters more complicated, the more Leila delves into the case, the more she’s confronted by her own sordid past and secrets — secrets that will come to light no matter how hard she tries to keep them buried.

Brosnahan is the very first cast member to be added to the call sheet for Season 2 of Presumed Innocent, but judging by the talent that backed the first season, with names including Peter Sarsgaard, Ruth Negga, and Bill Camp, the casting team will make incredibly careful selections. Gyllenhaal returns for the next chapter as an executive producer alongside Rachel Rusch Rich, Erica Lipez, and Matthew Tinker.

The Future of ‘Presumed Innocent’

Beyond Season 2, Kelley has teased that the future is overflowing with possibilities, recently telling Deadline, “We chose Dissection of a Murder for year two. But in success, it could go on beyond that.” In short, it’s up to the fans to carry on Presumed Innocent beyond Season 2. When looking back at Kelley’s other productions, like Big Little Lies, Boston Legal, Ally McBeal, Goliath, and Big Sky, there has always been momentum to push forward with more installments, so it’s incredibly likely that — should Season 2 nail it — Presumed Innocent could go on for quite some time.

Season 1 is now streaming in its entirety on Apple TV+.
