‘Wonder Woman’: Melissa Barrera Responds to Fans Demand to Be Cast as the Amazonian Princess!!

As the DC Universe continues its massive reboot under James Gunn and Peter Safran, one of the biggest questions still looming is who will wield the Lasso of Truth next. With Wonder Woman officially confirmed to be in development for the DCU, fans are eagerly awaiting casting news — and many have made it clear who they want to see step into Diana’s iconic red boots: Scream and Abigail star Melissa Barrera.

While promoting her recent work, Barrera was asked about the rising fan demand to see her take on the role. In an interview with A Shot Magazine, the actress responded with grace and humility, as one would expect from her, while also acknowledging the magnitude of responsibility that comes with portraying such a beloved icon.

I think it’s nice because of what the character represents. I think whoever gets the role, I just hope that they can embody the essence of the character because I think that those movies, whether they’re Marvel or DC, their reach is so big. And because those artists that get those roles will inevitably get a built-in fanbase and have the eyes and the ears of so many people, I think that it would be nice if they did something actually positive with the influence that they have to at least be a good example of the kind of human being that you wanna be in the world, instead of just using it for self-serving purposes.

What’s Happening with James Gunn and Wonder Woman?

During a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, Gunn gave a rare update on the long-gestating Wonder Woman reboot, confirming that the film is still moving forward — albeit slowly: “Wonder Woman’s a separate thing, slow moving, but it’s moving,” he said. “We’re working on Wonder Woman. Wonder Woman’s being written right now.

There’s no word yet on who’s writing the script, though speculation points to Gunn himself possibly being involved. The bigger mystery? Who will be cast as the next Diana Prince. One thing that’s almost certain: Gal Gadot will not be returning to the role.

Gadot initially suggested she was still on board for a third Wonder Woman film, but that was quickly refuted by trade reports. Before Gunn and Safran took over, Wonder Woman 3 was in development with Patty Jenkins directing — but the project was shelved after creative differences, reportedly due to concerns over Jenkins’ pitch and character arcs.
