‘My Next Guest Needs No Introduction with David Letterman’ Renewed for Season 6 & 7!!

Netflix has officially renewed the Emmy-winning talk show, My Next Guest Needs No Introduction with David Letterman, for two additional seasons, with Season 6 set to premiere later this year. The renewal news comes after the show’s critically acclaimed fifth season and its 2024 Emmy win for Outstanding Hosted Nonfiction Series or Special. The series, which originally launched in 2018 with President Barack Obama as its first guest — it’s a surprise it didn’t only go downhill from there, if we’re honest — has since evolved into one of the most acclaimed interview shows on streaming.

In a format far removed from the nightly grind of Letterman’s Late Show reign, each episode of My Next Guest dives deep into the personal and professional lives of high-profile guests — one at a time, and often on location. So far, the show has featured 27 episodes across five seasons with guests ranging from Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Robert Downey Jr., and JAY-Z, to Volodymyr Zelenskyy, Billie Eilish, Caitlin Clark, Tina Fey, and Dave Chappelle. And yes, there was also the time Jerry Seinfeld turned the tables and interviewed Letterman.

Why Is ‘My Next Guest Needs No Introduction’ So Popular?

Honestly, the key is Letterman, who is still an icon for a generation of comedians and stars. Letterman has always been one of the gold standards for celebrity interviewing, mainly because he’s less concerned with the press cycle and more interested in having the kind of conversation that only a three-decade veteran of late-night TV can pull off. The show often includes off-set excursions—like that unforgettable trip to Shah Rukh Khan’s Mumbai compound, Letterman hanging out backstage with Lizzo, or chilling on a farm with Robert Downey Jr.‘s llamas—that offer even more insight into each guest’s world.

And unlike the late-night shows of today, it’s received more praise for its intimate tone and unique format. Unlike most talk shows, it doesn’t aim to go viral with bits and games; it just wants to get into the mindset of the topic of the conversation, which is always worth doing. Behind the scenes, the series is produced by Jax Media, Imagine Entertainment, and Worldwide Pants, with executive producers including Tom Keaney, Mary Barclay, Justin Wilkes, Yolanda T. Cochran, and Séamus Murphy-Mitchell. Isabel Richardson and Tommy Alter serve as producers.
