‘Badlands’ Director Confirms Plans For Another Project in the ‘Predator’ Franchise!!

Predator fans are already eating incredibly well this year thanks to the recent release of Hulu’s feature-length animated production, Predator: Killer of Killers, and the live-action, Predator: Badlands, which is slated for a cinematic release later this year. But Dan Trachtenberg, the filmmaker behind both projects and 2022’s Prey, wants audiences to save plenty of room for dessert. While speaking with SFX magazine, the director teased that there’s yet another Predator production he’s planning to get to in the very near future.

After Prey came out, and I started thinking about sequel stuff, there were three ideas that I had. Killers is one, Badlands is two and the third one is something else. The reason why I felt possessed to make them and sort of why I rushed – I did two at once because I could do, I could multitask with animation – was because I was so eager to get to the third thing.”

Although he won’t give details about the unnamed third project just yet, he was certain to point out that it would be unlike anything fans have seen from the sci-fi horror franchise in the past.

There’s a lot of cool ideas out there and none of them are just like, ‘Oh, we have to say the next part of this story because it was successful.’ All of it is like, ‘Whoa, no one has done that in sci-fi . No one has done that in Predator. No one’s done that with the creature,’ all of those ideas are generated from that instinct. So, yeah, there is definitely a third thing that I’d love to get to when Badlands is finished.”

What We Know So Far About ‘Predator: Badlands’

Thanks to a trailer, we have a general idea of the plot surrounding Predator: Badlands. In it, a young Predator named Dek (Dimitrius Schuster-Koloamatangi) will try to reunite with his clan by proving that he’s a worthy fighter. Along the way, his path will cross with Elle Fanning’s Thia, who the debut teaser revealed to be a Weyland-Yutani android. There are still a lot of puzzle pieces left to be put into place by the time Predator: Badlands roars onto screens on November 7, but fans are already speculating about the movie’s big bad.

We know that it’s going to be an incredibly formidable opponent which will push Dek to the extreme in his quest for survival, but what could this lifeform be? After the reveal that Predator: Badlands will tie into the Alien franchise thanks to Fanning’s synth, there’s certainly a chance that the new movie could lean into an Alien vs. Predator vibe, or, perhaps, even lay the groundwork for that to be Trachtenberg’s mysterious third project.
