‘Tower of Terror’: Scarlett Johansson Provides New Update on Announced Disney Feature!!

Scarlett Johansson knows that fans have been waiting a long time for the upcoming Tower of Terror movie. During a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly about her role as Zora Bennett inJurassic World Rebirth, Johansson provided an insightful update when it comes to the project that will bring the Disney Parks adaptation to life on the big screen. The Tower of Terror movie was announced a long time ago. Projects such as Black Widow and The Phoenician Scheme have kept Johansson busy while the team behind the movie figured out the perfect storyline to produce. Here’s what Scarlett Johansson had to say about the status of the Tower of Terror film:

It’s a hard nut to crack. Harder than you think, because the ride itself, there’s some lore to it, but it’s… I don’t want to say thin, but it is, kind of… That’s part of the mystery of the ride. It’s been a fun project to work on, because it’s a blue sky project. It has also proved to be a hard nut to crack. But, we’ll crack the case of it. It’s taking shape!

The Tower of Terror attraction, located at several Disney Parks around the world, is based, in most of its iterations, on the Twilight Zone television series. The original version of the attraction, currently located in Orlando, tells the story of a group of people who entered one of the Hollywood Tower Hotel’s elevators on the night of October 31, 1939. Lightning strikes the building, sending the unfortunate victims to the Twilight Zone while the empty elevator drops into the void.

The attraction has become a landmark for the Disney Parks located at the Walt Disney World Resort, alongside Cinderella‘s Castle in Magic Kingdom and the Tree of Life in Animal Kingdom. The pre-recorded video that greets guests before they hop into the elevator even features a version of Rod Serling voiced by Mark Silverman. Considering how the Tower of Terror has been one of Disney‘s most popular attractions for decades, it makes sense for the company to recruit Scarlett Johansson for the film adaptation.

The Tower of Terror Returns

Scarlett Johansson‘s upcoming adaptation of the Tower of Terror on the big screen won’t mark the first time Disney has produced a movie based on a popular attraction. D.J. McHale wrote and directed Tower of Terror in 1997, with Steve Guttenberg and Kirsten Dunst cast in the lead roles. The television production is not currently available to stream on any platform, including Disney+, meaning that Scarlett Johansson‘s upcoming adaptation could tap further into the legacy of the attraction.

Josh Cooley was hired as the screenwriter for Tower of Terror when it was announced that Scarlett Johansson would be attached to the project. The writer previously worked on Toy Story 4, Inside Out, and several other Pixar titles. The working relationship between Cooley, Johansson, and Disney is set to continue thanks to the highly anticipated Tower of Terror. No actors have been cast in the production. Could the adaptation make its way to the big screen at some point in the near future? That is a mystery worthy of The Twilight Zone.

Disney hasn’t announced a release date for Tower of Terror.
