Few Marvel heroes mix brawn, brains and charisma into a perfect blend quite like Tony Stark’s Iron Man. While the character has featured heavily in multiple Marvel films in the past decade or so, that stint has come to an end. However, Marvel has a plan to introduce the arc reactor-powered hero to a younger generation, keeping his memory alive. The plan comes through the new preschool animated series Marvel’s Iron Man and His Awesome Friends. The forthcoming show has set its release date, which will premiere on Disney Jr. on Monday, August 11, then on Disney+ the following day. The animated series will feature and follow Iron Man/Tony Stark, Ironheart/Riri Williams, and Iron Hulk/Amadeus Cho as the series’ main characters and resident tech geniuses.
According to Marvel, the show “follows the adventures (and misadventures) of best friends and super geniuses—Tony Stark, Riri Williams, and Amadeus Cho—as they work together to solve problems, both big and small, and protect their city. In order to help them save the day, the Iron Friends each have their own Iron Suits that allow them to fly and give them enhanced super-strength.” Given the nature of the show and its demographic, viewers, both young and old, can expect comedic, fun, light-hearted stories in Iron Man and His Awesome Friends. The series stars Mason Blomberg as Tony Stark (Iron Man), Kapri Ladd as Riri Williams (Ironheart), Aidyn Ahn as Amadeus Cho (Iron Hulk), Tony Hale as Ultron, Vanessa Bayer as Swarm, and Talon Warburton as Absorbing Man.
Marvel’s ‘Iron Man and his Awesome Friends’ Promises To Be An Exciting One
To help bring Iron Man and His Awesome Friends‘ theme song to life, Disney Jr. enlisted the help of a musical genius in Grammy Award-nominated musician Mark Hoppus. Hoppus is a renowned bassist, vocalist, and founding member of Blink-182, who wrote and performed the series theme song, “Totally Awesome.” Disney offered a tease of the upbeat anthem yesterday, along with a sneak peek introducing us to the Iron Friends. The full song will be released as a digital single by Walt Disney Records today, Friday, June 27. As we head towards the show’s premiere, Marvel looks to make the wait bearable by introducing a series of ten shorts leading up to the show — Meet Iron Man and His Awesome Friends, starting on July 14th both on television and digitally. Besides introducing the series’ main characters, they will also introduce more characters and Marvel fan favorites, like Sam Wilson’s Captain America, Black Panther/T’Challa, and Aña Corazon as Iron Spider.
Marvel’s Iron Man and his Awesome Friends is executive produced by Sean Coyle and Harrison Wilcox. James Eason-Garcia is co-executive producer and story editor; Alex Cichon is supervising producer; Ashley Rideout is producer; and Michael Dowding is supervising director. Matthew Margeson is the series’ composer.
Iron Man and His Awesome Friends premieres Monday, August 11, on Disney Jr. and later that day on Disney Channel. The first 10 episodes will be available on Disney+ in the U.S. and select international markets, and Disney Jr. on Demand on August 12th.
