Prime Video‘s new Norse epic series continues to flesh out its cast after adding Xavier Molyneux and Jessica Madsen as its leads. Now, per Deadline, a Kraven the Hunter star is joining the saga in a royal new role. Levi Miller has been cast as Haakon the Good, the younger half-brother of Molyneaux‘s famed Viking raider Erik Bloodaxe, in the historical series Bloodaxe, which is set to begin filming between Iceland and Ireland this summer. Vikings mastermind Michael Hirtz is at the helm as creator, showrunner, and executive producer alongside his son, Horatio Hirst, in what is shaping up to be a spiritual successor to the six-season History Channel epic.
Bloodaxe primarily follows the titular raider and his wife, Gunnhild (Madsen), the Mother of Kings, in their fight for the throne of Norway at a time when the country is divided by bitter rivalries and shifting loyalties. As war and chaos threaten to consume the kingdom, things only get more complicated with other Scandinavian lords entering the fray alongside a powerful English ruler, all of whom seek to expand their influence. With the series bringing the legends of the Icelandic Sagas to life and exploring the backstory of Bloodaxe, Haakon will have a big part to play as the eventual king of Norway, who forces Erik and his family into exile after gaining the support of powerful landowners and turning his allies against him.
MGM Television will produce Bloodaxe for Prime Video, and it’ll mark a much-anticipated return to Nordic storytelling for Hirst after closing out Vikings back in 2021. He’s since been occupied with MGM+‘s Billy the Kid series, which was picked up for a third and final season back in October. In addition to him and his son, his latest Viking-centric show will also be executive produced by Morgan O’Sullivan under his O’Sullivan Productions banner, Steve Stark under his Toluca Pictures label, Arturo Interian, John Weber, Sheila Hockin, and Fred Toye.
Where Else Can You See Levi Miller?
Before playing the younger version of Aaron Taylor-Johnson‘s titular anti-hero in Kraven the Hunter, Miller had already started putting together a solid resume. He’s perhaps best known for playing Peter Pan opposite Garrett Hedlund‘s Captain Hook in 2015 origin story Pan, and also featured in other productions for the House of Mouse like Ava DuVernay‘s A Wrinkle in Time. More recently, he was seen in 2021’s Streamline, starring alongside Jason Isaacs, and led the Jordon Prince-Wright-directed historical war drama Before Dawn last year. Next on the docket for the young actor is Shiver, a feature adaptation of the YA fantasy novel of the same name starring, among others, Maddie Ziegler, Greg Kinnear, Alicia Witt, Alexander Ludwig, and Iman Vellani.
Bloodaxe is ramping up quickly and will begin production this summer.
