‘Prison Break’: Dominic Purcell Confirms Non Appearance in Upcoming Reboot!!

Prison Break was revived — and not for the first time — on Netflix last year when it was added to the platform and topped Nielsen charts for months straight. This prompted Hulu to greenlight a Prison Break reboot near the end of 2024, one that reportedly had no plans to bring back any former Prison Break stars. However, this didn’t stop fans from speaking their mind, with many calling for original stars Dominic Purcell and Wentworth Miller to return as Michael Scofield and Lincoln Burrows. Purcell, who is also known for his work as Mick Rory in DC’s Arrowverse, decided he’s heard enough. Purcell took to his personal Instagram to definitively respond to the rumors, shutting them down and confirming he will not return in the Prison Break reboot.

The Prison Break reboot is reportedly set in the same universe as the original Prison Break, but featuring all-new characters. This has raised questions about any potential connections to the original show — did Michael Scofield’s famous breakout inspire this new group of Prison Breakers, or is it simply another group anxious to break out of their confinements? Only time will tell. Still, after Prison Break ended on such rocky terms, firmly going downhill following its first season and running for way too long, nearly all fans would agree the reboot has its work cut out for it to pull fans back in. The same thing happened with Suits recently — the show surged on Netflix, which prompted a reboot in the form of Suits LA. The show woefully underperformed and was canceled after one season. Fans can only hope the Prison Break reboot doesn’t suffer the same fate.

Who Will Star in the ‘Prison Break’ Reboot?

The Prison Break reboot has recruited Lili Taylor, Donal Logue, Emily Browning, Lukas Gage, Margo Martindale, Ray McKinnon, Drake Roger, Priscilla Delgado, Sylvester Powell, Kameron Whitaker, JR Bourne, Clayton Cardenas, Myles Bullock, and Georgie Flores to star. The show will be written and created for television by Paul T. Scheuring, with Elgin James also working as a writer. In addition to creating the original Prison Break series, Scheuring is also known for his work on Den of Thieves, the 2018 heist thriller starring Gerard Butler. If there’s any reason to be excited about the Prison Break reboot, it’s Scheuring’s involvement.

The Prison Break reboot is expected to be released next year.
