‘Verity’: Star-Studded Colleen Hoover Adaptation Pushes Release Date to October 2026!!

You’re going to have to wait a little longer for Colleen Hoover‘s chilling tale of secrets and romance to hit the big screen. Verityhas been pushed back from its May 15, 2026, release date until later next year. The thriller is a production of Amazon MGM Studios, and will star Anne Hathaway and Dakota Johnson; the studio unveiled the first trailer for the film at CinemaCon earlier this year. It is now set to be released on October 2, 2026.

Deadline, who first reported the delay, does not give a reason for the film’s postponement, but does note that several successful literary thriller adaptations have been released in early October in years past, including The Girl on the Train and Gone Girl. While the 2026 release calendar is still in flux, October 2 release date will pit it against Alejandro G. Iñárritu‘s as-yet untitled comedy, which will star Tom Cruise. Verity is the latest screen adaptation of Hoover‘s novels, which are darlings of BookTok; it comes in the wake of It Ends With Us becoming a sleeper hit in 2024, making $351 million USD on a $25 million budget, despite mixed reviews and ample behind-the-scenes animus.

What is ‘Verity’ About?

Based on Hoover‘s 2019 novel of the same name, Verity stars Johnson as Lowen Ashleigh, a struggling writer who’s approached by Jeremy Crawford (Josh Hartnett). His wife, Verity Crawford, is a famous and successful novelist who’s been incapacitated after a car accident. Jeremy wants Lowen to finish Verity’s novels, using her notes. She relocates to the Crawfords’ eerie, isolated lake house, and soon starts uncovering long-buried secrets and uncomfortable truths…while simultaneously falling in love with Jeremy. It all comes to a head in a shocking, thrilling conclusion twistier than any of Verity Crawford’s potboilers. It will also star Ismael Cruz Córdova (The Rings of Power), Brady Wagner (Liz Here Now), and Irina Dvorovenko (The Americans). The film is directed by Michael Showalter (The Idea of You), from a script by Nick Antosca (Brand New Cherry Flavor).

Verity is only one of a raft of Hoover adaptations in the works. Regretting You, starring Allison Williams, Mckenna Grace, and Dave Franco, is set to be released on October 24, 2025, while Reminders of Him, with Maika Monroe and Tyriq Withers, is slated to be released on February 6, 2026.

Verity will be released on October 2, 2026.
