At last, the date is officially set for the return of Hulu‘s favorite murder mystery podcasting trio. A new announcement clip featuring Steve Martin, Martin Short, and Selena Gomez confirmed that Only Murders in the Building will be returning to the Arconia for Season 5 on Tuesday, September 9. Better yet, the investigation into the death of the beloved doorman Lester (Teddy Coluca) will kick off with three episodes on that day, followed by new episodes every week thereafter. It’s set to be another star-studded affair, taking the intrepid team into the heart of New York’s dark underbelly to uncover the secrets of its most powerful residents and the shadiest inhabitants of the Arconia.

Only Murders Season 5 picks up in the direct aftermath of Season 4’s shocking finale, when, after Oliver (Short) and Loretta (Maryl Streep) tied the knot in a ceremony filled with friends and family, the trio discovers the body of Lester lying in the fountain. After four seasons of discovering bodies in suspicious circumstances, they know this was no accident. Their search takes them to the shadowy corners of the city, where they begin unraveling a web of secrets connecting billionaires, old mafia family members, and residents of the Arconia who have so far gone unseen. They’ll be dealing with some of the most powerful forces they’ve ever reckoned with, discovering a New York they never knew where old crime families scratch and claw for control against new, more sinister power players.

All of this also figures to tie in with the group’s run-in with Sofia Caccimelio (Téa Leoni). Before discovering Lester, they’re approached by the woman, who asks them for help finding her missing, presumably dead husband, Nicky “The Neck” Caccimelio. Although it’s not related to the building on the surface, she assured that there are more connections than Oliver, Charles, and Mabel realize. Given Nicky’s ties to the Caputo crime family, too, the mystery also hints at the Arconia’s history with the mob. Lester will be their priority, but they may also find the answers Sofia is looking for along the way as their investigation spans New York and beyond.

‘Only Murders in the Building’ Season 5 Welcomes Killer New Guest Stars

Coming off of one of Only Murders‘ most star-studded seasons, Season 5 will continue the tradition of big-name celebrities walking through the doors of the Arconia. The trio of Martin, Short, and Gomez will, of course, remain intact, with Michael Cyril Creighton again joining them as their favorite neighbor Howard, and a few familiar guests returning, like Streep, Da’Vine Joy Randolph, Richard Kind, and Nathan Lane. Beyond them, the series has brought in award-worthy talent aplenty, including the aforementioned Leoni, Bobby Cannavale, Renée Zellweger, Logan Lerman, Christoph Waltz, Keegan-Michael Key, Beanie Feldstein, Dianne Wiest, and Jermaine Fowler. Executive producer Dan Fogelman, who’s back at the wheel alongside co-creators Martin and John Hoffman, previously told Collider he was ecstatic for viewers to see this new selection of guests be “hysterical and funny and dangerous in all the right ways.”
