Universal and Blumhouse are making the dreams of Scream fans everywhere come true today by announcing that Skeet Ulrich will reteam with his on-screen bestie, Matthew Lillard, for Five Nights at Freddy’s 2. The news comes on the morning of the movie’s big panel at SDCC and was paired with the official trailer debut, so we can’t wait to see what other tricks and treats they have in store for those in attendance at the yearly gathering. The announcement marks a major horror icon reunion, as Ulrich and Lillard previously appeared alongside one another in Wes Craven’s 1996 feature, Scream — the movie that would start a franchise. As of right now, it isn’t clear which character Ulrich will be joining as, but perhaps we’ll find out more later today.
The big reveal comes after months of speculation that Ulrich would appear in the eagerly-anticipated sequel in one way or another. He joins a group of fellow newcomers that include Teo Briones (Final Destination Bloodlines), Freddy Carter (Shadow and Bone), Wayne Knight (Jurassic Park), and Mckenna Grace (Annabelle Comes Home), the latter of whom will make her Scream debut early next year with Scream 7. The feature will also bring back a slew of familiar faces, as, along with Lillard reprising his role as William Afton, stars including Josh Hutcherson (The Hunger Games franchise), Elizabeth Lail (You), Piper Rubio, and Theodus Crane (The Walking Dead) will also return.
From what we’ve gathered so far, the action in Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 will be bigger, bolder, and scarier than ever, as the possessed animatronics from the first film come back to life thanks to Rubio’s Abby. But, this time, they won’t be held back in the franchise location of Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza where we last crossed paths with them. Instead, they’re hitting the town and painting it red — with blood.
The Ghostface Reunion We Deserve
For years, Scream fans have been calling for Lillard and Ulrich to reprise their roles in the beloved slasher franchise. In the last two movies, Ulrich’s Billy Loomis appeared in the clothes he was killed in by way of a visual hallucination stemming from Melissa Barrera’s character. In next year’s Scream 7, Lillard is finally getting the screamtime screentime we’ve been longing for, as he, and fellow deceased characters played by Scott Foley and David Arquette, will be returning in one capacity or another. Yet, our thirst for an Ulrich and Lillard reunion has yet to be quenched, so, Five Nights at Freddy’s 2, we salute you.
