Hope you have a few hours, because fans now have the chance to sit down and take a long look at the Hall of Justice mural as seen in James Gunn’s Superman, , which induced no end of nerd-squealing. The DCU movie has been a box office success and as Gunn, David Corenswet, Rachel Brosnahan, Nicholas Hoult, and more reap the benefits of that success, fans get a little bit of a reward. Gunn posted to social media today, sharing the art for the Hall of Justice. While Gunn has previously confirmed that we won’t necessarily see everyone depicted on the mural in projects, the characters chosen were done so intently. He told Rolling Stone, we’ll “not necessarily specifically see all of them, but yes, some of them we already have in the works in different things in different ways.” He says today:
“You asked for it, you got it. Here’s the full mural honoring the History of Metahumans in the DCU adorning the Hall of Justice in #Superman.”
A Comprehensive-Ish List of the Identified Heroes on the Hall of Justice Mural
In the glimpses seen during Superman, some eagle-eyed fans had a good couple of educated guesses for who could be seen on the mural. Previously, Gunn confirmed the presence of Kent Nelson, aka Dr. Fate in an interview with Josh Horowitz, but he doesn’t seem to be on the mural Gunn posted to social media. Let’s break this down and start from left to right on who fans have guessed they spotted on the mural. All the way on the left of the first picture may be Sister Symmetry. Then the Silent Knight, a past life of Carter Hall aka Hawkman, then there’s potentially Exoristos. Moving further along, there’s potentially Bess Lynn aka Miss Liberty on horseback and John Ravenhair aka Black Bison. The other person on horseback looks to be Lazarus Lane aka El Diablo. Wesley Dodds aka Sandman, Will Everett aka Amazing-Man, and Giovanni Zatara seem to round out the first image.
In the second image, some slightly more recognizable characters are found. Libby Lawrence, aka Liberty Bell, is standing next to the actual Liberty Bell. Bulletman and Bulletgirl are midair above Maxwell Candrell aka Max Mercury. Then there’s TNT and Dan the Dyna-mite. Next to them looks to be Sandra Knight aka Phantom Lady, then Dominic Mndawe aka Freedom Beast. Then comes one of the first heroes spotted that sent the internet into a frenzy, Ted Grant aka Wildcat. Next to him is Paco Ramone aka Vibe. Then comes Andrew Van Horn aka Gunfire and finally, through a cheeky comment on Instagram, the final person replacing where Dr. Fate was on the mural, looks to be Sean Gunn‘s Maxwell Lord. Gunn previously confirmed “there was a ton of thought put into” the mural. Most, if not all characters depicted are considered “deeper cut” characters that fans simply keeping up with the franchise’s “diamond characters” or consume the adaptations like the Arrowverse, DCEU, or now the DCU, may not immediately recognize. It’s clear though, that Gunn has a well-thought out and intentional plan to satisfy fans that know both the deeper cuts or maybe are seeing Superman as their first proper exposure to the world of DC.
Regardless, you can see the mural for yourself in Superman, now playing in theaters.
