‘The Girlfriend’ Trailer Sees Robin Wright and Olivia Cooke Face Off!! Check It Out!!

It reaches a time when a boy becomes a man and slowly detaches from his mother as he finds another woman to fulfill some of life’s requirements that a mother can’t. This marks significant growth for the boy as he ventures out into the world to chart his own path, but nowhere is it written that the mother must accept or even like this change. And so the mother tries to get her boy back, by whatever means necessary. In Prime Video’s psychological thriller The Girlfriend, Robin Wright plays one such mother, Laura, whose son, Daniel (Laurie Davidson), brings home his latest girlfriend. Laura notices something weird about the girlfriend and wants to keep her son safe from her. Or does she? The streaming service released a trailer for the series, debuting next month on September 10. The official description reads:

Based on Michelle Frances‘ novel of the same name, The Girlfriend follows Laura, a woman who seemingly has it all: a glittering career, a loving husband, and her precious son, Daniel. Her perfect life begins to unravel when Daniel brings home Cherry (Olivia Cooke), a girlfriend who changes everything. After a tense introduction, Laura becomes convinced Cherry is hiding something. Is she a manipulative social climber, or is Laura just paranoid? The truth is a matter of perspective.

A Mother Tries to Save Her Son from ‘The Girlfriend’ in Thrilling Trailer

As the video above teases, Daniel and Cherry’s connection is instant, steamy, and intense. Soon enough, he introduces her to his mother, and Cherry stands out. Daniel’s family seems well off, and Cherry notices the various expensive things they own, raising a red flag in Laura’s mind. She remains undecided on whether Cherry is good enough for her Daniel. Meanwhile, Cherry’s mother gets into her head about her new family, calling into question the longevity of this new relationship. If she didn’t want him, she does now.

A cold war begins between mother and girlfriend as each seeks Daniel’s favor. However, things escalate and threaten to spiral out of control. Is the only way for this to be resolved for someone to leave? Maybe six feet under? The Girlfriend also stars Waleed Zuaiter as Howard, Tanya Moodie as Isabella, Shalom Brune-Franklin as Brigitte, Karen Henthorn as Tracey, Anna Chancellor as Lilith, Leo Suter as Nicholas, and Francesca Corney as Millie.

The six-episode first season will debut with all episodes on September 10.
