Industry insiders have now confirmed that Ryan Reynolds will appear as Deadpool in Marvel’s Avengers: Doomsday, ending months of online speculation and making his recent Instagram tease far more than just a clever troll. Late Monday night/early Tuesday morning, Reynolds posted a picture of the Avengers logo without comment, sparking a frenzy of fan theories. Up until now, his absence from the official cast announcement had puzzled many, especially considering the record-breaking $1.3 billion global haul for Deadpool & Wolverine.
While Marvel Studios has yet to issue an official statement, it’s being reported this evening that Reynolds will indeed suit up again for the 2026 film, though the size of his role remains under wraps. This confirmation will be a relief to fans who feared Wade Wilson might be sidelined in the MCU after his most successful solo outing yet.
Will Hugh Jackman Be in Avengers: Doomsday?
Reynolds’ Deadpool & Wolverine co-star Hugh Jackman has so far kept his own Doomsday status close to the vest. Earlier this year, when asked if Wolverine would appear, Jackman simply said he had “nothing to add.” The coyness hasn’t stopped fans from imagining the two mutants returning for at least one more buddy adventure—especially since the movie will already feature multiple returning Fox-era X-Men. Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, James Marsden, Rebecca Romijn, and Alan Cumming have all been confirmed to reprise their iconic roles, adding more weight to the crossover event.
Marvel’s multiversal scope means Deadpool’s arrival in Doomsday could be as brief as a quick gag or as pivotal as shaping the movie’s climax. Either way, this marks the first time Reynolds’ Deadpool will interact directly with the mainline Avengers roster on the big screen. And with Jake Schreier’s untitled X-Men movie still in development, his appearance here could easily set the stage for whatever comes next for Marvel’s mutants.
In the meantime, Reynolds fans can catch him in another unexpected reunion—Life, the 2017 sci-fi thriller he starred in with Jake Gyllenhaal and Rebecca Ferguson, will begin streaming on Paramount+ September 1. The film, penned by Deadpool scribes Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese and directed by Daniel Espinosa, has been enjoying a surprising resurgence on VOD overseas.
Avengers: Doomsday is in production now in the UK, and will open in theaters in December 2026.
