After months of waiting following the announcement of its December release, Season 2 of Prime Video‘s smash-hit video game adaptation Fallout is primed to get its first official teaser at Gamescom Opening Night Live tomorrow. Before the return of Lucy (Ella Purnell), Maximus (Aaron Moten), The Ghoul (Walton Goggins), and Dogmeat to the violent, chaotic, and darkly comedic wasteland, though, the streamer had one big surprise to share today in preparation for the upcoming festivities.
As the first poster showed, Fallout is bound for the Mojave Wasteland and the jewel of the desert, New Vegas. Season 1 ended with Hank MacLean (Kyle MacLachlan) fleeing for the post-apocalyptic Sin City in a stolen suit of power armor, with Lucy and The Ghoul in hot pursuit. The revelations about the purpose of Vaults 31 through 33, Hank’s role in the destruction of Shady Sands, and his past connection to the now-mutated Cooper Howard left both survivors with plenty of questions for the former Vault-Tec executive. Though exact plot details have been kept under wraps, it’s clear that the unlikely duo will be exploring the city and the dangerous wasteland around it for answers, including information about the whereabouts of Cooper’s family.
Season 2 also promises an exciting experience for fans because of its many connections to Fallout: New Vegas, widely considered the best game in the franchise. Beyond the setting, it’s known that Robert House (Rafi Silver), the CEO of Rob-Co, will play a big role in the story, having appeared in person during flashbacks to Vault-Tec’s top-secret meeting with various business magnates. In New Vegas, he’s known to players simply as Mr. House, existing only as a brain plugged into a supercomputer to extend his life indefinitely and oversee a Las Vegas he worked so desperately to preserve into the new world. Considering the show takes place in 2296, a full 15 years after the Courier’s journey in the Mojave, it’ll be intriguing to see how it addresses the gap in time, especially concerning the many possible endings of the game.
‘Fallout’ Season 2 Promises New Threats and Curiosities in the Wasteland
Last spring, Fallout debuted to widespread acclaim with matching 93% critic and audience scores on Rotten Tomatoes, cementing itself as one of the best video game adaptations out there while breaking viewership records for Prime Video. All the attention spurred the streamer to renew it for Season 3 even before Season 2’s debut. Series creators Graham Wagner and Geneva Robertson-Dworet and executive producers Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy have only given viewers a taste of the wasteland so far, though. The door is open for new factions and shifting power dynamics to be unearthed in the Mojave, along with more fan-favorite characters and creatures from the games, like the terrifying Deathclaws. Much of Season 1’s cast will return with the main trio and MacLachlan as well, like Moisés Arias and Xelia Mendes-Jones, with the only other newcomer announced until now being Home Alone‘s Macaulay Culkin.
Fallout Season 2 takes viewers back to the wasteland in December after taking a detour to Gamescom tomorrow, August 19. It’s generally a great time to be a fan of the show, with Fallout 76 planning more tie-in content and a new Halloween Horror Nights attraction allowing viewers to experience the wasteland for themselves.
