We only have a few more months of holding our breath before Wicked: For Good lands in theaters, and today brings a new look at Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande back in Oz. The newly released image shows Erivo’s Elphaba, green-skinned and draped in her dark, battle-ready wardrobe, standing alongside Grande’s Glinda, who glows in a soft pink gown and diamond earrings. Their faces say it all — Elphaba’s gaze is heavy with doubt and conviction, while Glinda’s smile carries both warmth and sadness.
The photo perfectly sets the stage for what director Jon M. Chu calls a “much more mature, emotional journey” compared to the first film. Last year’s Wicked closed with the two witches making irreversible choices: Elphaba choosing rebellion and exile, and Glinda stepping into power. When we reunite with them in For Good, they’re no longer the students who bonded at Shiz University. They’re changed women whose paths may never fully converge again.
What Can We Expect From ‘Wicked: For Good’?
Grande herself admitted in a recent featurette that “much has changed” between the characters. The fallout of their decisions means that the friendship audiences rooted for in the first part may be gone for good. That tension is at the heart of the story, which Chu describes as a tale of heartbreak, hope, and the cost of power.
Of course, the sequel won’t just revisit old wounds — it will expand the mythology of Oz. Audiences will finally see how Dorothy Gale and her companions enter the picture, with origins teased for the Tin Man, the Cowardly Lion, and the Scarecrow. Wonder who they could all be?! Grande has also hinted that fans will “learn exactly how” these iconic characters came to be.
And then there’s the music. While Part One soared with the legendary “Defying Gravity,” For Good promises even more emotional punches with numbers like “As Long As You’re Mine,” “No Good Deed,” and the bittersweet duet “For Good.” Composer Stephen Schwartz has also penned brand-new songs for the second act, ensuring there will be plenty of fresh moments alongside the Broadway classics.
With Jonathan Bailey, Michelle Yeoh, and Jeff Goldblum returning to round out the cast, the film is shaping up to be as dazzling as its predecessor. Wicked: For Good hits theaters on November 21, 2025. Just hold space a little longer, folks. The return to Oz will be worth the wait.
