Paramount+ has changed the fate of the Dexter prequel starring Patrick Gibson, months after a renewal was announced. Paramount came forward in April and revealed that Dexter: Original Sin had been renewed for Season 2, a decision which has since been walked back. In a stunning movie, Variety reports that the streamer has gone back on its word — Dexter: Original Sin has been canceled and will not receive a second season, despite it being greenlit months ago. Dexter: Original Sin had reportedly been stagnating for the last few months, with any plans to begin shooting another season not coming to fruition.
Today’s news dump isn’t all bad for Dexter fans, though. Variety also reports that the second season of Dexter: Resurrection, the sequel series that brought back Michael C. Hall, is progressing quickly. Paramount is making plans to open a writers room for Season 2. It’s important to note that Dexter: Resurrection has not yet been renewed for Season 2, but this show of faith from Paramount is certainly a good sign. As long as the writers can get a good story ironed out, the show should be in good shape to move forward with another season.
In addition to Patrick Gibson playing a young Dexter Morgan, Dexter: Original Sin also stars Molly Brown as Debra Morgan, or Deb, Dexter’s sister. Christian Slater was also tapped to play Harry Morgan, the duo’s father, with stars like Christina Milian and James Martinez playing the younger counterparts of Maria Leguerta and Angel Batista. Grey’s Anatomy heartthrob Patrick Dempsey can also be seen in Dexter: Original Sin as Captain Aaron Spencer. Based on the series of novels by Jeff Lindsay, Dexter: Original Sin was written and created for TV by James Manos Jr. and Clyde Phillips.
How Many More Episodes Does ‘Dexter: Resurrection’ Have?

Episode 9 will premiere on August 31, with the finale coming on September 5. The show has been well-liked by both critics and audiences thus far, enough to register scores of 94% from critics and 86% from audiences on Rotten Tomatoes. The show also sees original Dexter veteran David Zayas return to the role of Angel Batista.
Dexter: Original Sin will not receive another season.
