‘The Institute’ Renewed for Season 2!!

Those who have enjoyed tuning in to The Institute will be thrilled by the latest announcement, as the supernatural horror series — based on the 2019 novel of the same name by the horror legend Stephen King — has been renewed for another season. Similar to the first season, which will conclude on August 24, Season 2 will also consist of eight episodes. King announced the Season 2 renewal himself through his social media page.

Per the latest reports, The Institute marks MGM+’s most successful premiere to date, raking in a record number of views during its premiere. The series centers on 12-year-old genius Luke Ellis (Joe Freeman), who wakes up one day in a mysterious facility known only as The Institute. The place, shrouded in secrecy and far from what it seems, is populated by other children who — like Luke — have no idea how they got there in the first place. But they all share one chilling similarity: each possesses an unusual ability. As the Institute continues to experiment on the children, ex-cop Tim Jamieson (Ben Barnes) from a nearby town suspects the place may be hiding a sinister secret.

Who Stars in ‘The Institute’?

Joe Freeman plays Luke in the series, while Ben Barnes — best known for his roles in Shadow and Bone and The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian — plays “disillusioned ex-cop” Tim, who, according to the official synopsis, “has come looking to start a new life, but the peace and quiet won’t last, as his story and Luke’s are destined to collide.” Season 1 also stars Simone Miller as Kalisha, Fionn Laird as Nick, Hannah Galway as Wendy Gullickson, Jason Diaz as Tony, Fionn Laird as Nick, Jane Luk as Maureen, Brendan Beiser as Norbert Hollister, Jordan Alexander as Kate, Mary Walsh as Annie, Dan Beirne as Drew, and Weeds star Mary-Louise Parker as the primary figure of authority of The Institute, Ms. Sigsby.

While King’s extensive body of work has long made its way to the big screen, several of his novels have also been adapted for television, including The Outsider, Castle Rock, The Stand, and more. The Institute is the latest of King’s works to be brought to the small screen. Meanwhile, Mike Flanagan — a horror legend in his own right — is currently developing a television adaptation of Carrie. It: Welcome to Derry, on the other hand, is set to premiere this fall.

The Institute’s Season 1 finale arrives on MGM+ on August 24.
