Round One: FIGHT! After getting knocked off the release calendar, Legendary‘s new adaptation of the iconic fighting game franchise Street Fighter is set for a release next year. The studio has released new details about the hotly anticipated film, which will star Andrew Koji, Noah Centineo, and Jason Momoa. The film will finally hit theaters on October 16, 2026. According to its official synopsis, the film will be set in 1993, and will center around Ryu (Koji, Bullet Train) and Ken Masters (Centineo, The Recruit); the two street fighters were once brothers in arms, but have become estranged.
However, they’ll have to put aside their differences when mystery woman Chun-Li (Callina Liang, Presence) to battle in the World Warrior Tournament. Once there, they won’t only have to deal with the fists, feet, and hadoukens of their opponents: they’ll face off against a sinister conspiracy. Legendary also released a pair of posters patterned off the video game’s character selection screen, contrasting the film’s cast members with their video game counterparts. The irreverent tone of the posters and its retro 1990s setting suggest that the film will stay true to the series’ somewhat irreverent tone; previous big-screen adaptations have leaned heavily into comedy, as in the 1994 feature, or avoided it entirely, like 2009’s Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li.
Who Else Stars in ‘Street Fighter’?
The film also boasts an all-star cast portraying a full slate of classic Street Fighter characters, including Momoa as Blanka, Joe “Roman Reigns” Anoa’i (Hobbs and Shaw) as Akuma, David Dastmalchian (Late Night With the Devil) as M. Bison, Cody Rhodes (The Naked Gun) as Guile, Andrew Schulz (The Underdoggs) as Dan Hibiki, Eric André (The Eric André Show) as Don Sauvage, Vidyut Jammwal (Commando) as Dhalsim, Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson (Power) as Balrog, masked musician Orville Peck as Vega, Olivier Richters (Reacher) as Zangief, professional wrestler Hirooki Goto as E. Honda, Rayna Vallandingham (Cobra Kai) as Juli, mixed martial artist Alexander Volkanovski as Joe, Kyle Mooney (Saturday Night Live) as Marvin, and Mel Jarnson (Mortal Kombat) as Cammy.
Street Fighter was originally set to be directed by Danny and Michael Philippou (Bring Her Back), but they had to drop out over scheduling issues; they were replaced by Kitao Sakurai (Bad Trip). It will be distributed by Paramount as part of Legendary‘s new deal with the studio.
Street Fighter will be released in theaters on October 16, 2026.
