Warner Bros. and the DC Universe will be heading down a dark road next year with Clayface, the R-rated film about the titular mud-based villain. But Clayface won’t be the only mug that’s seen in the film; several easter eggs have emerged thanks to set photos, with one recent picture giving us our initial look at The Flying Graysons. This marks the first reference to Dick Grayson/Robin in the DCU.
The image, which made its way across social media sites like X, shows off a blue-tinted poster which says simply, “The Flying Graysons,” alongside an image of a female acrobat. It’s unclear exactly who this is supposed to be, but in the comics, the Graysons are a trapeze act who are murdered following a financial extortion. Their orphaned son Dick Grayson is eventually adopted by Bruce Wayne and becomes Batman’s iconic sidekick, the yellow-caped Robin. Dick Grayson was the first iteration of Robin to appear in the comics and remains the most famous, but he hasn’t been seen in a live-action Batman film in over 25 years.
It’s unclear, of course, whether or not this is simply an easter egg, or whether the Graysons will actually appear in Clayface. Other shots from the film set have also made references to, among other things, iconic Batman villains like the Joker. So it remains to be seen if Robin will get his time to shine in Clayface, or whether he’ll make his DCU debut in another project.
‘Clayface’ Will Be a Major DCU Film
While there are several other confirmed DCU films in the works, Clayface might be the most unqiue. The film will star Tom Rhys Harries as Matt Hagen. Unlike the comics, where Matt is a treasure hunter, this film will depict him as an actor whose face becomes disfigured by a gangster. As a result, he turns to a scientist for help, but the scientist turns his body fully into clay, and the villainous, shapeshifting Clayface is born. The film will also star Naomi Ackie and Max Minghella.
Clayface is one of numerous highly anticipated DCU films. This includes 2026’s Supergirl as well as the recently announced Superman sequel, Man of Tomorrow, set for a 2027 release. Clayface is directed by James Watkins from a screenplay by Hossein Amini and horror master Mike Flanagan. The film is produced by DC Studios co-CEOs James Gunn and Peter Safran alongside Lynn Harris and The Batman director Matt Reeves for his 6th & Idaho Productions banner.
Clayface is in theaters on Sept. 11, 2026.
