‘Dexter: Original Sin’ Season 2 Showrunner Teases Plans Before Cancellation!!

The creator of Dexter: Original Sin has finally broken his silence on the show’s shocking cancellation, and also revealed what future seasons of the prequel would have looked like. Paramount picked up Dexter: Original Sin for a second season earlier this year, only to go back on this decision last month and announce that Dexter: Original Sin had been canceled after only one season. This news devastated fans, who were excited to see more of a young Patrick Gibson as Dexter Morgan, and also see the show continue to grow into the serial killer hit from the 2000s we all know and love.

Dexter mastermind Clyde Phillips recently sat down for an interview on an episode of the Dissecting Dexter Podcast to talk about the Dexter: Resurrection Season 1 finale, and he was asked about the cancellation of Original Sin. He admits that it “was a tough phone call I got that night. They had already picked up the show, and I’d informed all the writers and informed all the actors, and then they unpicked it up.” He continued, “It wasn’t handled well, and I’m not happy about it.

Phillips also went into details about what Season 2 and beyond would have looked like, confirming that “we plotted out a couple of years of this. We were looking forward to introducing new characters like Doakes. Fans now have yet another reason to be upset, knowing a fan-favorite character like Doakes was already planned in Dexter: Original Sin. He continued, “Imagine Doakes at 25 years old or 30 years old. And Captain Matthews. And also watching Dexter’s evolution and Harry’s evolution.” It sounds like Phillips was quite deep into the weeds on the future of Original Sin before Paramount brought the axe down.

Another Dexter Project Was Recently Canceled Out of Nowhere

During the same episode of Discussing Dexter, Phillips was also asked about the status of the reported Trinity Killer spin-off show starring John Lithgow. He essentially confirmed that the project had been canceled, saying that Paramountjust wants to focus on Resurrection.Dexter: Resurrection has yet to be picked up for another season, but around the same time that Paramount canceled Original Sin, they opened a writer’s room for Dexter: Resurrection Season 2. A renewal is heavily expected to be announced before the end of the year.
